NOTICE(S)

- Senior Project Drop Policy:

One of Hilo High’s learner outcomes is to teach our students to “Act as responsible citizens in the community, state, nation and global society.”  With this in mind, students should make careful, thoughtful decisions during registration. In order to maximize classroom learning and minimize disruption, students and parents should be aware that:

- Students enrolled in the Senior Project Capstone class will only have the FIRST THREE WEEKS of school to drop out of Senior Project.

- There will be no drops after the first three week period at the start of the school year.

1. Summer Task – Selecting a Topic and Finding an Off Campus Mentor

(Forms to help organize your thoughts)

- Selecting a Topic for Your Senior Project (Tips on selecting a Senior Project. You must have a general topic by the time you start the school year)

- Interest Survey (Use this sheet to help narrow down your interest and find what you’re passionate about)

- Review the mentor information below. 

- Proposal Form (Topic proposal form)

 

 

2. Mentor Information

(An on campus and an off campus mentor are required to guide you through your paper and project)

* Mentor Project Evaluation Form (To be completed by your off campus mentor to evaluate the project portion of your Senior Project)

 

- What is a Mentor PowerPoint (Information on your mentor)

 

- Off Campus Mentor Letter (Review this letter to learn about the role of your off campus mentor. Print this letter and give to your potential off campus mentor when asking them to become your mentor)

* Off Campus Mentor Contract (Have your off campus, community mentor complete this form.  Turn in one copy to your SP teacher, hold on to one copy for yourself; give a copy to your mentor)

 

- On Campus Mentor Letter (Review this letter to learn about the role of your on campus mentor. Print this letter and give to your potential on campus mentor when asking them to become your mentor)
* On Campus Mentor Contract (Have your on campus, community mentor complete this form.  Turn in one copy to your SP teacher, hold on to one copy for yourself; give a copy to your mentor)

 

* Off Campus Project Verification Logs (Use this sheet to keep track of your off campus mentor hours.  Your off campus mentor needs to initial off on your dates and times ).

* Weekly Project Reflection Logs (Instructions on how to do you weekly reflections.  You will need two reflections per a week starting _______________ and ending ____________).

 

* Finance Planning Sheet (Prior to conducting your project, use this sheet to plan the necessary funding for your project.  Discuss this sheet with your mentor.  Keep a copy for the “Letters Section” of your portfolio)

 

- Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii Senior Project Site (Check this site out for help locating a mentor within the Hawaii business community)

 

3. Letter of Intent

(Letter that states the purpose of your project and topic for your research paper)

- Proposal Form (Topic proposal form)

 

- Letter of Intent PowerPoint (PowerPoint on how to write your letter of intent)

- Plagiarism Document (defines what plagiarism is. Review this document before completing the Letter of Intent template)

* Letter of Intent Template (complete this template when doing your letter of intent)

- Letter of Intent Checklist (have someone evaluate your letter of intent and check for these points)

* Letter of Intent Yes Test (This is what will be used to evaluate your final Letter of Intent.  Therefore, make sure that you are able to mark “Yes” for each part)

4. Research Paper

(Six to ten page, thesis driven research paper done in MLA format, utilizing a minimum of 5 resources)

5. Parent Consent Form

6. Portfolio

(Collection of your SP work to document your journey)
 (You will need TWO copies of your Senior Project Portfolio)

* Portfolio Evaluation Rubric (Rubric used to evaluate your Senior Project Portfolio)

 

- Portfolio Checklist (Checklist of items to be included in your final portfolio as well as the order in which they should placed)

* Portfolio Title Page Template (Use this template as your portfolio title page. Include your name and date.  Do not alter the font, or font size)

* Portfolio Table of Contents Template (Use this template as your portfolio table of contents. Include page numbers as well as additional information on this template.  Do not alter the font, or font size; remove any italicized items before printing)

* Portfolio Section Dividers Template (Use this template as your portfolio section dividers. Do not alter the font, or font size - section titles should be 3 inches below the 1 inch top margin.)
* Senior Project Overview (Print this out and include in your portfolio.)

 

7. Commitment Poster

(Poster to announce your research and project topic to the school)

8. Senior Boards Speech Presentation

(Seven to ten minute presentation in front of  a panel of judges)

- Outline  Format for Board Speech (Use this to outline your board speech which will guide your speech draft/actual speech)

- Speech Tips (Do’s and Don’ts of giving your speech)

 

* Speech Rubric (Rubric that will be used to evaluate the Senior Board Presentations)

 

9. Letter to the Judge

(Letter introducing yourself and your topic to your panel of judges)

* Letter to the Judges – Purpose (Please read this document before starting your letter to the judges to understand its intent)

* Letter to the Judges - Format (Follow this format when writing your letter to the judges)

10. Project/Product

(Minimum of 45 hours working with your mentor to complete a project that deals with your topic)

* Mentor Project Evaluation Form (To be completed by your mentor. Turn in by March 29/30, 2011 to your Senior Project teacher)

* Project Self-Evaluation (Complete this self-evaluation of your project when you are done. Place a copy in your portfolio)
