Notice to Students, Parents, Employees, Volunteers Patrons, and Friends of Hilo High School

The Department of Education and Hilo High School are serving this notice to remind everyone that State and Federal laws, and Department of Education policy, prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, or age in any program or activity conducted by the Department of Education and Hilo High School. Unequal treatment and harassment of students on the basis of the foregoing protected characteristics will not be tolerated, particularly racial or sexual harassment. Verbal or non-verbal harassment that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive school environment, or interferes with the education of a student, or otherwise adversely affect the educational opportunity of a student will be dealt with in a forceful manner.
Students, parents, employees, and concerned citizens have a right to bring discrimination and harassment concerns to the administration of Hilo High School. You are encouraged to do so at the outset so that the school administration will have the opportunity to look into such concerns and correct violations on a timely basis.
You may also contact the Department of Education’s Civil Rights Compliance (CRC) Office to file a formal complaint of discrimination, including unlawful harassment. Call the CRC Office at (808) 586-3322 and the secretary will connect you to a staff member for assistance in filing a complaint. All accepted complaints will be investigated.
