Join Ms. Frias, Mr. Dircks, Mrs. Laliberte, the National Honor Society, the Future Health Professionals Club, and the Japan Club to march in solidarity to show our support for victims of domestic abuse. How many of you have known a family member or friend who was the victim of domestic abuse or assault? How many of you have been the unfortunate victims of abuse or assault yourself? The terrible truth is that abuse and assault are the most under reported crimes in Hawaii and across the nation. One in every four people in the United States is a victim of abuse, assault, or rape in their lifetime. And only about one/fourth of these crimes are ever reported. These statistics are tragic. In our daily lives, we may not feel able to do much to help victims, especially silent ones, but we would like to share an opportunity with you to join Ms. Frias, Mr. Dircks, Mrs. Laliberte, the National Honor Society, the Future Health Professionals Club, and the Japan Club to march in solidarity to show our support for victims on Saturday, October 26th. We plan to participate in the YWCA's "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" fundraising walk. We will meet at the Hilo High Pool at 7:15am on Saturday, October 26th. We will then walk to the Y as a group, to be ready to begin the 1-mile walk by 8:00am. We should be done and back at the Hilo High Pool area by 9:30am at the latest. If you are interested in participating, please pick up a form from Ms. Lawrence or Mrs. Frias in A-1. We hope to show our community that Hilo High School does not stand for abuse or assault of any kind.
