09/21/2021 KVIKS TV Morning Bulletin

HOST ANCHOR:

Aloha Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S Morning Bulletin, my name is Clara, and here are your announcements for Tuesday, September 21, 2021 .Today’s periods are 1,3,5, and 7

Here’s what’s happening today:

International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace, on September 21st, was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. To inaugurate the day, the United Nations Peace Bell is rung at the UN Headquarters in New York City. The inscription on its side reads, "Long live absolute world peace".

Today, we wish for peace and happiness on our Hilo High School campus and throughout the rest of the world. According to Japanese tradition, 1,000 cranes will make your wish come true. Thanks to the Hilo High School Key Club, Japanese Language students, and SA Leadership students, we have accomplished that goal. Hilo High will be sending our 1000 cranes to be displayed at the Hiroshima Sadako peace monument. On International peace day, don’t forget to be extra kind to others.

In case you missed it Vikings…

WHAT’S NEW ANCHOR:

Student-Athlete Medical Exemption for COVID-19 Vaccination

On August 4, 2021, the Hawaii State Department of Education issued a notice outlining the “new safety guidelines with vaccination requirements for athletes, adults to participate in sports.” The notice states that all student-athletes, athletic staff and volunteers will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 24, 2021, to participate in school-sanctioned athletic activities for the 2021-2022 school year. Full vaccination is defined as two weeks after the second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.

Students who request a medical exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine may submit a completed COVID-19 Medical Exemption Form to the principal of their schools. Students who are granted an exemption will be required to take a COVID-19 test two times a week and test negative in order to participate.

Should you have any questions, please contact Raymond Fujino, Educational Administrative Services Director for the Extended Learning Branch, at (808) 305-9641 or via email at [email protected].

Religious Accommodation for COVID-19 Vaccine

Posted on the Hilo High School website is the Religious Accommodation for COVID-19 Vaccine Memo as well as the request form itself. All student-athletes parent(s)/guardian requesting a religious accommodation MUST complete this form and submit the form directly to DOE Civil Rights Compliance Branch or CRCB Equity Specialist Dee Sugihara at [email protected]. ALL accommodation requests will be decided by the CRCB and NOT by the school itself. The CRCB will be contacting each parent/guardian directly for additional information prior to making a determination. Once a determination is made by CRCB, CRCB will notify the school as well as each family of the decision. ALL CRCB religious accommodations decisions will be FINAL and there will be NO appeals process regarding the decision. If a religious accommodation is granted, each student-athlete will have to provide two negative covid tests per week. Test results must be submitted to the athletics head coach or to the athletic director. Failure to stay up to date with two weekly negative covid tests will result in student-athletes being prohibited from participating in athletics until test results are brought back up to date.

At this time, the DOE does not yet have an approved form for student-athlete medical accommodation requests. Once we receive this we will release this to our families immediately.
