AVID Traffic Safety

Hello Vikings and families! We can all practice traffic safety by ensuring that the vehicle driver is distraction-free. Whether it be texting or scrolling on the phone, doing hair or make-up, or other seemingly innocent activities, all of these distractions pose a deadly risk. There have been more than 35,766 fatal car crashes in the US during 2020 alone, and there are 14,386 car accidents PER DAY nationally! There is a significant chance that a family member, friend, or classmate of yours could be in these accidents. And the leading cause of these accidents are these distractions.

In addition to this danger that distracted driving poses, you or your family could be liable for a $300 to $350 fine if caught by the police.

So when you catch yourself or others becoming distracted on the road, remind them of these consequences so that you can keep yourself and our community safe on the road.

Winter Ball Announcement

Hilo High School's 2022 Winter Ball is happening on December 17th!

This is the first dance of the school year and all grades can attend. Winter Ball has a Sunday's best or semi-formal dress code so think about long pants with a dress shirt or short dresses or jumpsuits.  No shorts, slippers, or t-shirts.

Only students who have paid their school dues will be allowed to pick up a permission form to attend. School Dues are collected during first recess, lunch, and after school.  Please bring $25 cash to the main office.  Get your school dues payment in as soon as possible.

Class of 2023 T-Shirts

Hey Seniors! Your class t-shirts are in! Please pick up your shirt at Ms. Switzer's room in R-24 during recess or lunch. Not sure if you ordered a t-shirt? You can check with Ms. Switzer. Didn't get a chance to order a t-shirt? There is a limited supply. Get it while supplies last!

KVIKS will be back after these messages.

Hui Hawai’i

Aloha Hui Hawaiʻi members!  This is just a reminder that we will be having our first get together on Poʻakolu-Wednesday during Wā ʻAI or lunch time in K101.  Please come on time so that we can get started as soon as the bell rings.  Please let Kumu ʻAwa know if you cannot make it.  Mahalo nui loa and see you there!

College Fair

Hey, Vikings!  We've been invited to bring 80 students to a College Fair on Friday, October 21st.  If you are interested in attending, come to N-103 to sign up and pick up a field trip form.  Forms need to be signed by your parent or guardian, and you need signed permission from your period 3 and 5 teachers.  Return your signed forms back to N-103 and the first 80 students will be able to attend.  Please see Mrs. Frias for a list of colleges that will be there, and for any questions you might have.  If you are interested in learning more about different colleges out there, we hope you will join us!
