HOST: Aloha Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin. I’m Tyra, today’s date is Monday, October 17, 2022. The periods are 2-STARS-4-6.


TODAY IS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS!

The Girls Volleyball Team is in the BIIF Playoffs! Tonight they compete against Waiakea High School at 6 PM. Come down to the New Gym and show your Viking support! KVIKS Media will be broadcasting this live at hilohigh.org/livesports.


This week for College and Career Visitations.

On Thursday, October 20, 2022 there will be another Hawaii Community College Application session during period 1 for those who missed the first one. 

For Friday, October 21, 2022, we have two visitations.

Starting off with the Universal Technical Institute which will be visiting during period 1. 

Then, the Gonzaga University will be visiting during period 7. 


Please see Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up for any session you are interested in and get a pass.


Hero Store

Vikings, come to the Hero Store (B35) during lunch recess TODAY with your report card to collect some hero points! You will receive 10 points just for bringing it in to show us and an additional 10 points if you don't have any D's or F's, and you could receive an additional 10 points if you have all A's.  Hope to see you during lunch!


National Honor Society

Aloha National Honor Society Members!

We will be having a meeting Today, Monday October 17 during lunch in Mr. Yamamoto Rm, R13. We will be discussing upcoming projects for October. Also, if you did not pay your dues, please do so ASAP!

Unity Day

Aloha Vikings! On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, is Unity day. Unity day is a day to promote kindness, acceptance and aloha. We encourage everyone to wear Orange in support of Unity Day and earn 10 HERO points. We also ask you to create a poster sign with a positive message and let’s wave it during Wednesday morning from 7:30 to 7:50 am to show our solidarity. Please come to Mrs. Masuhara’s room A-16 to get poster supplies. Let's be united for kindness, acceptance and aloha!


Winter Ball Survey

Hey Vikings! Winter Ball is coming up and we want to hear from you! A survey regarding Winter ball is sent to your email. Please fill out the survey as soon as possible as the result of this survey will be used to finalize important decisions for this year’s Winterball. 


Hilo High Swim Team

If you are interested in swimming for the Hilo High School Swim Team? Tryouts will be held on November 4, 2022. Every Tuesday and Thursday until that day, there will be technique sessions hosted from 3 - 4 PM at the pool. No club swim experience required.


KUPU Summer Youth Conservation Program

Hey, Junior and Senior Vikings!  Do you love the outdoors? Are you passionate about conservation and preservation of our 'aina?  Come to N-103 to sign up to learn more about the KUPU Summer Youth Conservation Program.  The presentation will be on Thursday, October 20th at 9:00am during period 1.  Sign up and pick up a pass from Mrs. Frias to learn more about how to become a Kupu Summer Team Member.  Just think - you can get paid to camp and work all over our island during the summer of 2023!  


Upward Bound Program

Listen up, Class of 2025 and 2026 - this announcement is for YOU!  Are you thinking about what it might be like to go to college, but you're not quite sure how you're going to get there?  The Upward Bound Program at UH Hilo can help!  See Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up and pick up a pass to listen to information about how you might be able to join.  Representatives from UH Hilo Upward Bound will be at Hilo High on Thursday, October 20th during pd 5.  We hope to see you there!


Youth Art Series Haunted House

Are you looking for some spooky fun this month? The East Hawai'i Cultural Center and Hilo High Art Club would like to invite you to the Youth Art Series Haunted House, opening this weekend at 141 Kalakaua Street. Can't make it this weekend? The haunted house will be open every weekend through the month of October.

Other Announcements


ASVAB Testing

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot.

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.

The LRC will be closed all morning on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022 to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch.
