Art Club

Aloha Art Club Members! Don't forget, we're meeting TODAY after school from 2:15-3:00PM in Ms. Z's 

room (L-4). Hope to see you there! 


Next week in College and Career Visitations.

On Monday, October 24, 2022 the Occidental College will be visiting during period 2.

On the same day, there will be another University of Hawaii at Hilo application session for those who missed the first one, during period 4.

Then, on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 the Washington State University will be visiting during period 4. Unfortunately, this session is full, so this is a reminder for everyone who signed up.

Lastly, on Thursday, October 27, 2022 the University of Nevada Las Vegas will be visiting during period 1.


If you are interested in any of these sessions, please see Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up and get a pass.


YWCA “Walk a Mile”

Hey, Viking Students, Faculty and Staff!  Hilo High is putting together a team of walkers to participate in the YWCA "Walk a Mile" Awareness Walk to stand up against rape, sexual assault, and gender violence in our community.  The walk will take place on Saturday, October 29th at 7:30am at the YWCA Hilo.  If you are interested in participating, or cannot participate but would like to help make a donation to the event, please see Mrs. Frias in N-103 for permission forms.  This walk is open to ALL who wish to stand up against violence and assault - we hope to see you there!


Japan Club

Konnichiwa Japan Club Members,


A friendly reminder to turn in your YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event form it is due on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 to Shehata Sensei. We are also going to do a shoes decorating day for that event on Friday, October 28 - right after school until 2:30 PM. Please check the Japan Club Google Classroom for more information.

Youth Art Series Haunted House

Are you looking for some spooky fun this month? The East Hawai'i Cultural Center and Hilo High Art Club would like to invite you to the Youth Art Series Haunted House, opening this weekend at 141 Kalakaua Street. Can't make it this weekend? The haunted house will be open every weekend through the month of October. 


HOST: Here is today's - menu. 


For Wiki: Pork Patty, Steamed Rice, Mixed Fruit, and Fruit Juice


For Lunch: Roast Turkey with Gravy, Whipped Potatoes, Zucchini Sticks or Carrots, Diced Pears or a Whole Grain Roll, and Mixed Fruit

Seal of Biliteracy

If you are a Senior this year, and understand another language other than English, you should consider applying for the Seal of Biliteracy.


The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE) in recognition of students who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional language by high school graduation.


Seal of Biliteracy Honorees will receive:

A medal - which can be worn at the graduation ceremony

A certificate

Seal of Biliteracy added to the transcript


You can learn more about the Seal of Biliteracy by attending the informational meeting, this Friday October 21st during lunch in B-45 Shehata Sensei’s room.

Hilo High Student Credit Union

Hey Vikings! The Hilo High Student Credit Union is once again hiring a student teller to work for our student credit union! Being a Student Credit Union teller has many benefits such as making extra cash, learning new skills, and an experience to add to your resume. Also, if you are a current Hilo High Student credit union member and want experience in both leadership and community service, you should join our Student Credit Union Board of Directors. Being a board director will allow you to experience leadership and community service. This will open you to new experiences and community service. Hilo High Swim Team

If you are interested in swimming for the Hilo High School Swim Team? Tryouts will be held on November 4, 2022. Every Tuesday and Thursday until that day, there will be technique sessions hosted from 3 - 4 PM at the pool. No club swim experience required.



ASVAB Testing

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot.

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.

The LRC will be closed all morning on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022 to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch.
