PRE-ROLL: Kindness Week

Hey Vikings! My name is Keanna Galut and today's kindness quote is, “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the greatest intentions.” This means you don’t have to do something big to make a change. Change can happen even in the smallest act of kindness. So remember to be kind and be a reason for someone to believe in the goodness of people. Have a good day Vikings and practice being kind!

Hawaiian Independence Day

Aloha kākou! ʻO wau ʻo Aneline . a ʻO wau o Michael. This is how  Lā Kūʻokoʻa came to be,  PART 2.

On April 8, 1942, Kamehameha III appointed 3 envoys on a diplomatic mission to secure the recognition of Hawaiian independence from the United States, Great Britain and France.

Reverend William Richards (an American) and Timoteo Haʻalilio (a native Hawaiian) were granted plenipotentiary powers to negotiate treaties on behalf of Hawaiʻi.

They made their way to the United States and met with the U.S. President John Tyler who assured them of Hawaiiʻs Independence at that time.

The third envoy, Sir George Simpson (a British subject and owner of the Hudsonʻs Bay Company) sympathized with Hawaiʻi and loaned the Hawaiian government 10,000 pounds to fund this mission of independence.  Stay tuned tomorrow when we share PART 3 in the history of Lā KūʻokoʻaAlooha!
