HOST: Aloha Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin. I’m Celeste, and today’s date is Friday, February 24th, 2023. The periods are 2-4-6, and even though it is an even Friday, school will end at 2:15 PM. Please let your parents know. Also all teachers have the schedule of which session your pd 4 class will attend, so please just report to pd 4 as usual.

Senior Service Project

Hey Seniors! Next week Thursday, March 2, 2023 we will be holding our Senior Service Project. It will be at Ho'olulu Complex Area (aka Wong Stadium, The Civic, and Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium). Community Service projects allow us, as students, to give back to our community! In order to participate in this service project, you will need to have a permission form filled out. If you did not receive one in your period 1 class, or you do not have a Period 1, please see Ms. Switzer to obtain one. All permission forms must be submitted to Ms. Switzer by Monday February 27th, 2023.

PALC

Aloha students. We are so excited to invite you to be a part of the spring musical! We need people who want to work behind the scenes, create sets, run sound, act, sing, dance and more! Auditions will be held the following Tuesday, February 28th at 3pm. Hope to see you there!

Astronomy Career Panel

Aloha, Vikings!  Have you ever thought of a career in Astronomy?  Or Engineering? Do you want to learn more about these possibilities?  You're in luck!  Journey Through the Universe Week starts February 27th, and we have many presenters scheduled to be on campus.  Some of you may be meeting presenters through your classes, but we also have some that are open to anyone interested in signing up.

On Tuesday, February 28th, an Astronomy Career Panel will be here during pds 3 and 5.  And on Wednesday, March 1st, a local Hilo boy working on his PhD at UC Irvine is going to talk with us about his educational journey so far, and give us insights on the many possible ways you could go if you're interested in Engineering.  See Ms. Lawrence or Mrs. Frias in N-103 to pick up a pass if you are interested in signing up for either of these sessions.  We hope to see you there!

GEAR UP Program

Attention Juniors!

Are you interested in attending UH Manoa after graduating High School? Are you interested in learning about the different programs that UH Manoa has to offer? Well youʻre in luck! Through our GEAR UP Program, we have the opportunity to fly up 10 Juniors for FREE to attend the Mānoa Experience. The Mānoa Experience will be on Saturday April 1, 2023. If you are interested in being a part of this group, please see Mr. Yamamoto in Room R13 by Monday Feb. 27, 2023. This is a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE opportunity! Donʻt wait!

KVIKS will be back after these messages.

[VIDEO] Financial Friday

Hey Vikings, it’s finally the end of the week, which means you know what time it is! Financial Friday! My name is King James, and I am a member of the Student Credit Union. Today's financial tip is all about convenience and freedom of having your own money available when you need it.  How, you may ask? Open a checking account

To open a checking account: you must have a parent or guardian on the account with you and be at least 13 years old.  To open the checking account, visit our Hilo Branch located behind Just Cruisin Coffee.  You can get a debit card that day! Go Get your Financial Freedom Vikings!

Also, the Student Credit union is hiring new student tellers. This will be a great opportunity to gain experience and earn money while in school. If interested, pick up an application at the SCU branch located at the LRC. This segment is brought to you by the Hilo High Student Credit Union. Have a great day Vikings!

Hey, Vikings!  This is Mrs. Frias, your Career and College Counselor at Hilo High School.  I'm super excited to tell you that this Friday, February 24th, you will all be attending a Career Fair here on campus during pd 4.  Right now, I have over 50 different agencies across most of our pathways, coming to Hilo High to share information with you about the careers you might be interested in pursuing in the future.  To help you to be prepared for the fair, I will email you all a list of the agencies and organizations, as well as some guiding questions you might want to prepare to ask when you attend on Friday.  This list and questions will also be printed and given to you on Friday in pd 4.  All teachers have the schedule of which session your pd 4 class will attend, so please just report to pd 4 as usual.  And please also let your parents know that although it is still an EVEN day, school will end at 2:15 on Friday, Feb 24th.  I hope you will make the most of this opportunity!  I'm really looking forward to this, and I hope you are too!
