Registration Forms (12/8/23-12/14/23)

Students in Grades 9 through 11, if you still have your colored registration forms, please turn them in to a trusted teacher, or to the front office as soon as possible. Remember, if you fail to turn in your registration form, you throw away your chance to choose your own classes for next year! Instead, your classes will be selected for you. Please submit all forms as soon as possible to avoid that from happening.

Winter Week! (12/11 - 12/15/2023)

The holiday season is officially in full swing here at Hilo High, and what better way to celebrate than with a winter dress-up week? December 18th through 21st will be our “Christmas on Film” Winter Week! Here are all our awesome dress-up days and activities going on for this week!

Monday, December 18th is “All Aboard the Polar Express!” Just like the kids on the Polar Express, dress in your favorite cozy pajamas as we pass out hot chocolate to those who dress up!

Tuesday, December 19th is “Walking Down Candy Cane Lane!” On this day, wear red and white colored outfits like candy canes!

Wednesday, December 20th will be “A Wizardly Wednesday!” On this day, dress in the colors of your class’s assigned Hogwarts house- the Seniors are Ravenclaw so should wear blue and black, the Juniors are Gryfendor so should wear red and gold, the Sophomores are Hufflepuff so should wear yellow and black, and finally the Freshmen are Slytherin and should wear green and black!

Our final day, Thursday, December 21st, is “Ugly Sweater Weather!” Simply come to school in your ugliest, most festive Christmas sweater! We’ll also be handing out some Christmas Cookies for you to enjoy!

As a reminder, there will be NO school on Friday, December 22nd!

We hope to see you all participating in these festive dress-up days to close out this year! Happy Holidays, Vikings!

Winter Ball Table Selection

Hey Vikings! Are you confused on how to select your winter ball table- well don’t worry, we can clear it up now! If you paid your winter ball payment on November 28th, 29th, or 30th, then you can select your table TODAY, Monday, December 11th in F-Building during lunch. If you paid on December 1st or didn’t go on the previous days, you can select your table starting on Tuesday, December 12th.  Be sure to check the list of names outside of F-Building for eligible students before you get in line, and check the winter ball map to get an idea of what table you will want. Be sure to bring your ID, receipt, or table selection slip with you! If you want to sit with your friends, we recommend you all go together to ensure you can sit at the same table! We hope this cleared up any confusion and happy Winter Ball!

Senior Updates  (12/11/2023-12/14/2023)

Listen up, Seniors - this announcement is for you.

As you all should be well aware, your PTP was due at the end of your Junior year, and less than half of you met that deadline.  The rest of you were given until last week Friday, December 8th to complete it, and about 75 of you are STILL not done.  Because completion of the PTP is a State of Hawaii Graduation Requirement, those of you who are not done, are not on track to graduate.  I will be notifying your parents of your status in January.

Your Commencement Song Practices will begin during STARS in January when we return from Winter Break.  Those of you who are not done with your PTPs at that time, will not be allowed to attend Song Practices, and will lose out on earning Commencement Tickets.  We do not want anyone to be in this situation, so PLEASE work on it and get it done.

If you have any questions at all about the PTP, please see me in N-103 during recess, lunch, or after school.  Thank you.

Kanu Hawaii (12/11/2023)

Kanu Hawaii is a movement of everyday people, working to protect and promote what makes Hawaii special. This organization preaches a connection to the ‘āina, a culture of aloha, and local self-reliance. Everyone who lives in Hawai’i has a kuleana and a commitment to leave these islands cleaner and more beautiful than we found them. Kanu Hawai’i has recently started a program called Pledge to our Keiki, which is a pledge you can sign to say you will work to protect the future of Hawai’i for future generations, and some of our Hilo High student leaders will be signing the pledge this week. Please give your attention to the following video to learn a bit more about this pledge. Video: Pledge to Our Keiki
