[May Day Royal — Court]

Aloha.

My name is Lilinoe & I am Suede.  We are this year's May Day Court Committee chairs.

On behalf of Kumu ‘Awapuhi, Mr. Fernandez, Ms Whitehall, Ms Tiff & Ms Heather Aiona (our May day advisors) we are happy to announce this year's May Day court.

Before we do, let us remind you of the date and times of our May Day program.  May day will be on Friday, May 17th.  We will be having May Day during LOT for the Hilo High students and staff only.  No visitors or family will be allowed to attend our program.  That evening at 6pm, the May day program will be repeated and will be open for the community to come and watch provided they have a ticket (which can be obtained at a later time).

This year's court will be representing ALL of the Hawaiian islands again this year, so we have 9 “couples" to announce.  1 for each island and our king and queen.

So without further hesitation, here are your elected representatives along with the island that they will be representing.

Representing the island of Kahoolawe are: Ka’aleleo Niau and Layla Kalani-Royston

Representing the island of Ni’ihau are:  Maximus Alee and Brooke Gabonia

Representing the island of Kaua’i are: Jades Castillo and Moani Yamanoha

Representing the island of O’ahu are: Nikkilas “Mana” Victor and Isley Agliam

Representing the island of Lāna’i are: Blaisen Filoteo-Mendes and Emiko Saikiyear

Representing the island of Moloka’i are: Sidney Heu-Pacheco and Jayla Fiesta

Representing the island of Maui are:  Ikaika “Raysten” Kaupu and Shaylyn Leeper

Representing the island of Hawai'i are: Elias “ Kainalu” Aurello and Jordyn Foronda-Kamoku

And now for our King & Queen….

Your elected 2024 May Day King is: Kilohi Silva

And your elected 2024 May Day queen is: Emily Lavaries

Letʻs have a round of applause for your 2024 May Day Court!  **CLAP**

Congratulations to all of you!  Mahalo for your time.  We now return you to your scheduled KVIKS announcements.  ALOOOHA!

Hawaiian Word of the Day

Aloha, ʻo wau ʻo U’ilani a eia Ka Wai Wai Hawaiʻi o Ka Pule or the Hawaiian value of the week.

This weekʻs Waiwai Hawaiʻi is (Malama) which means (to take care of, protect, or preserve).

Aloha, ʻo wau ʻo Kanaluame ka haʻawina ʻaʻa no ka pule or challenge for the week.  I challenge you to practice this value by (helping your teacher with chairs if it’s out of place or picking up rubbish around the school).

aloha, ʻo wau ʻo Keola and I leave you with this ʻōlelo Noʻeau to keep in mind while you challenge yourself to practice this weekʻs Hawaiian value. (ʻAʻohe mālama, pau i ka ʻiole. Which means No one who takes care of his possessions has ever found them eaten by rats.) Have a great week and donʻt forget to practice (Malama).

I lā maikaʻi!
