Mele Murals

Mele Murals will be teaming with a core hui of 9th graders to teach mo'olelo of Hilo, design a mural and finally paint a large mural on the wall facing the track. If you see an artist, or cultural advisor on campus, please use your Viking pride and aloha to welcome them onto our campus.

 

Mele Murals promotes youth development, arts education, cultural preservation, and community-building through the creation of large-scale outdoor murals. Mural designs focus on Hawaiian lyrics (mele) that explore mo’olelo ‘aina (stories of place) and cultural and historical heritage. Local artists, youth, and other members of our communities spanning the eight major islands of Hawai’i continue to participate in our programs.
