Hilo High Community: HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

Founded in 1906, and with the first graduating class of 1908, for over 110 years, Hilo High School has been in the hearts, mind and soul of many people throughout the years. In order to continue the honorable Viking legacy, it is not just the responsibility of current students, parents, faculty and staff, it is also the responsibility of all those living near and far who are interested in our activities.

If you want to spread awareness into our activities, and share in your Viking Pride, there are very simple ways of doing so.

1) Follow @hilohighschool on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube

Collectively, our social media accounts have around 2,000 followers. User engagement on normal posts receives only an average of 500 views. Is there potential for growth? Absolutely. Recently, we have seen engagement of over 15,000 people, with posts receiving plenty of attention and comments. A lot of reactions and commenters voiced their opinions, but do they give the same amount of attention to other posts? How many of them do you think are actually following our social media accounts? If you want to show your Viking Pride, follow and engage with our social media posts. Get our message out to as many people possible.

2) Participate in the School Community Council Meetings

Do you want to enact change in our school? Do you want your voice to matter on subjects regarding operations, facilities, etc. Do you want to make sure that if another mural is painted, that the community is well heard? Decisions such as these, are consulted with the School Community Council. The council meeting has been and always will be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. The meeting is normally held on the first Monday of the month, but to know exactly when the next meeting is, check the public calendar on our website and mobile app regularly.

A recurring complaint that we have read recently deals directly with people thinking the school did not involve alumni or community members in the design and placement of the recent Mele Mural, when the details of this mural was discussed with the Hilo High SCC for the past four years.

3) Stay Connected

Hilo High is focused on remaining connected with our community. We regularly maintain and update our website and social media. We have tools such as the Hilo High Mobile App, where all the information you need about our school and our activities are readily available. We absorb the cost of these services because we really care about community engagement. It is not just the responsibility of the Hilo High Administration
