Aloha Vikings! This is K-V-I-K-S signing on for your morning news. My name is Jazz, and here are your announcements for Wednesday, October 20th, 2021. Today’s periods are 2, 4, and 6.


Thank you to everyone who participated in the Unity Day Sign Waving this Morning. If you are wearing orange, please come to the Auditorium during Lunch to receive 10 Hero Points for showing your Viking Pride. Remember, October is National Bullying Prevention Month so continue to show kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. 


In celebration of National Principals Month, we thank Principal Urasaki for her leadership and dedication. Principal Urasaki has demonstrated leadership in creating a stable learning environment and ensuring the safety of the entire school community as we navigate through a critical period in our educational system.


Here’s what’s happening today Vikings…


Tennis 

For those interested in participating in tennis & are not currently in a Fall sport, you are welcome to come out to conditioning/hitting practice at Hilo Intermediate Tennis Courts which starts this week. Boys: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 3:30pm, Girls: Tuesday - 4:30pm Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday- 4:00pm, Physicals & Covid vaccine cards are needed to participate. Any questions- see coach Leanne in F-Bldg.

UH Manoa College Opportunity Program

Hey, Seniors!  Are you interested in attending UH Manoa for college next year?  Come listen to a presentation by the College Opportunities Program at UH Manoa this Thursday, October 21st during pd 3.  See Mrs. Frias in the LRC to pick up a pass to attend.


KVIKS TV General Meeting

Attention all KVIKS TV members, there will be a general meeting this Thursday, October 21, 2021 in C-215. We will be making a resolution and need members present to vote. Thank you!


Wrestling Meeting
Attention ALL interested in joining the Hilo High School Wrestling Team, there will be an informational meeting and sign ups on Tuesday October 26th at lunch recess at the pool bleachers. If you cannot make it please contact Coach Ryan by email, [email protected]


AP EXAM FEE COLLECTION

AP Exam fees will be collected next week, October 25th thru the 29th in B33 during lunch recess.  

AP fees are $96 per test.  As of now there is no free/reduced waiver through CollegeBoard. 


ASVAB Sign-ups 

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is coming up on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Mr. Nakasato at [email protected] to reserve your spot. Due to COVID-19 the number of test takers per session have been reduced to 30. Also the LRC will be closed all morning on November 9th to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch recess.

Viking Band

Come join us for another Viking Band Jam This Friday during lunch in front of the auditorium. See you there!


PTP Workshops

Seniors, do you need help finishing your PTP? Please come to the LRC TODAY during Lunch and join the PTP Workshop. The PTP is a half credit required for graduation. There is no need to sign up, just have your school ID with you and come in! If we work on it together, you can get it done


Senior Mob Shot 

Aloha Seniors! It is time to make your poster and get ready for your group photo in the yearbook- The Mob Shot. Since we are still wearing masks, we will take individual photos in the LRC, Wednesday the 27th, right after school from 1:15-3pm. Please adhere to the dress code and make a poster no bigger than 2 feet by 3 feet. No contraband or bad language will be allowed. Questions? Ask Mrs. Mant in L-3. Show your Viking pride class of 2022 Dragons!


Class T-Shirt Pickups 

Attention Class of 2024 Phoenixes! Your class shirts are in! Please come to Mr. Yamamoto's Room, B-44 (2nd Floor of B-Building) during lunch ONLY. If you did not purchase a shirt, we have a few extra. This year's shirt is $10 and we have a few extra from last year going for $5. First come, first serve. Attention Juniors! Your class shirts are ready for pick up! Come to Ms. Switzer's class room B-45 any day during lunch for pick up!


KauKau Cards

The Class of 2022 is still selling KauKau Cards for $20. With your KauKau Card, you will be able to receive all kinds of discounts and free goodies from local businesses. You can purchase a KauKau card in Mrs. Araki's room (C-209) every Monday and Friday during the lunch periods. If you cannot make it, please email Mikailee at [email protected]. Make sure to tell all of your family and friends and support our seniors! Thank you!


LRC

Attention Vikings! The Learning Resource Center (LRC) also known as the library is open for students.The LRC is open during morning, first recess and lunch.  ID’s will be required for entry. In addition, the Hilo High School Student Credit Union will open on Tuesdays and Fridays during lunch at the LRC. And beginning next week, it will be open everyday during LUNCH at the LRC.  So come visit us and open an account with our Hilo High School Student Credit Union, where you could do your banking on campus.

Here are some reminders for this quarter


Students: when the school day ends, please be where you are expected to be.

If you are a student driver, proceed to the student parking area and leave campus as soon as possible. If you are taking the bus home, you should be at the bus pickup area ready for boarding.   Bus departure times vary based on driver availability, so be ready from right after school. If you are being picked up, please coordinate with your ride to come to campus 10-15 minutes after school ends.  While waiting for your ride, you may wait at the patio area or along the covered walkway.  If your ride must come immediately after the bell, please be ready for pickup at the designated area of the covered walkway.  Student pickup is not permitted at the lower road of the campus.


Student athletes who are waiting for practice to begin should wait at your designated practice location.

Those who are working with teachers or taking an after school class or club must be in or around the approved classroom location.

Daily after school tutoring is available at the lower patio.  Please see an adult at the patio or your counselor for more information

Students should not loiter on campus after the school day ends without a specific verifiable purpose.


Freshman Class Announcements 

Hey Freshman, YOUR class needs YOUR help for homecoming....If you are interested in taking part in either class decorations, class banner,  a class dance and/or a class cheer then you will want to sign up NOW....email Ms Park at [email protected] and let her know what you would be interested in....

If you love ART or Dancing or just being a part of a group and showing your spirit then this would be the sign up for you.... Please email Ms Park ASAP so that we can get you in your groups and running....


Also, your class t-shirts are in and ready to be distributed. 

Come by Ms Park's room during lunch recess starting Tuesday thru Friday of this week to pick it up.  See you soon!
