Aloha Vikings! This is K-V-I-K-S signing on for your morning news. My name is Dylan, and here are your announcements for Friday, October 22nd, 2021. Today’s periods are 1, 3, 5 and 7.


There will be an informational meeting today during lunch in room N101. Please bring a current physical and vaccine card or exemptions (medical or religious) in order to participate.

KauKau Cards

The Class of 2022 is still selling KauKau Cards for $20. With your KauKau Card, you will be able to receive all kinds of discounts and free goodies from local businesses. You can purchase a KauKau card in Mrs. Araki's room (C-209) every Monday and Friday during the lunch periods. If you cannot make it, please email Mikailee at s355-mikailee.palmerston@k12.hi.us. Make sure to tell all of your family and friends and support our seniors!

Class T-Shirt Pickups 

Attention Juniors! Your class shirts are ready for pick up! Come to Ms. Switzer's class room, B-45, any day during lunch for pick up!

Attention Sophomore Class of 2024 Phoenixes! Your class shirts are in! Please come to Mr. Yamamoto's Room, B-44 (2nd Floor of B-Building) during lunch ONLY. If you did not purchase a shirt, we have a few extra. This year's shirt is $10 and we have a few extra from last year going for $5. First come, first serve. 

Attention Freshman! Your class t-shirts are in and ready to be distributed as well. Come by Ms. Park's room during lunch recess today to pick it up.

Freshman Class Announcements 

Hey Freshman, YOUR class needs YOUR help for homecoming… If you are interested in taking part in either class decorations, class banner, a class dance and/or a class cheer then you will want to sign up NOW… If you love art or dancing or just being a part of a group and showing your spirit then this would be the sign up for you… email Ms Park at jaime.park@k12.hi.us and let her know what you would be interested in....

Filipino American History Month (Mikailee will film this part separately)

Mabuhay vikings! October is Filipino American history month. It commemorates the first arrivals of Filipinos in America on October 18, 1587. Filipino-American History month is created to promote the deep history and contribution of Filipinos in America. In celebration of the Filipino-American history month, on Wednesday, October 27 during lunch at the auditorium, we will have a tinikling dance performance and a special treat for you to enjoy. HCC Visitation

SENIORS!  Are you interested in applying to our local Hawaii Community College, or the University of Hawaii at Hilo?  If so, please see Mrs. Frias in the LRC to sign up for a free application session.  Let's get our applications in early!

United States Marines Visitation

Aloha, Vikings!  Are any of you interested in learning more about what the United States Marines has to offer?  A Marine representative will be coming to Hilo High on Tuesday, October 26th during pd 3.  See Ms. Lawrence or Ms. Frias in the LRC to sign up and pick up a pass.  We hope to see you there! 

LRC Committee Designs

As you may have noticed this year, we are working toward transforming our traditional Library into a Learning Resource Center, and we are ready for your input!  This space should be something that EVERY VIKING is comfortable to use, and should offer the space and resources that help you to be successful in school.

If you are interested in submitting a design of what the LRC could look like and how it is used, pick up a blank floor plan from Mrs. Frias or Ms. Lawrence in the LRC.  Designs are due back to the LRC by Friday, October 29th at Lunch.  All submissions received by the deadline will be considered by the LRC Committee.


AP Exam fees will be collected next week, October 25th thru the 29th in B33 during lunch recess. AP fees are $96 per test.  As of now there is no free/reduced waiver through CollegeBoard.

Senior Mob Shot 

Aloha Seniors! It is time to make your poster and get ready for your group photo in the yearbook- The Mob Shot. Since we are still wearing masks, we will take individual photos in the LRC, Wednesday the 27th, right after school from 1:15-3pm. Please adhere to the dress code and make a poster no bigger than 2 feet by 3 feet. No contraband or bad language will be allowed. Questions? Ask Mrs. Mant in L-3. Show your Viking pride class of 2022 Dragons!

Other Announcements

ASVAB Sign-ups 

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is coming up on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Mr. Nakasato at Ryan.Nakasato@k12.hi.us to reserve your spot. Due to COVID-19 the number of test takers per session have been reduced to 30. Also the LRC will be closed all morning on November 9th to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch recess.

Wrestling Meeting
Attention ALL interested in joining the Hilo High School Wrestling Team, there will be an informational meeting and sign ups on Tuesday October 26th at lunch recess at the pool bleachers. If you cannot make it please contact Coach Ryan by email, ryan.taniguchi@k12.hi.us

PTP Workshops

Seniors, do you need help finishing your PTP? Please come to the LRC TODAY during Lunch and join the PTP Workshop. The PTP is a half credit required for graduation. There is no need to sign up, just have your school ID with you and come in! If we work on it together, you can get it done


Attention Vikings! The Learning Resource Center (LRC) also known as the library is open for students.The LRC is open during morning, first recess and lunch.  ID’s will be required for entry. In addition, the Hilo High School Student Credit Union will open on Tuesdays and Fridays during lunch at the LRC. And beginning next week, it will be open everyday during LUNCH at the LRC.  So come visit us and open an account with our Hilo High School Student Credit Union, where you could do your banking on campus.
