Wrestling Meeting
Attention ALL interested in joining the Hilo High School Wrestling Team, there will be an informational meeting and sign ups TODAY during lunch recess at the pool bleachers. If you cannot make it please contact Coach Ryan by email, [email protected]


United States Marines Visitation

Aloha, Vikings!  Are any of you interested in learning more about what the United States Marines has to offer?  A Marine representative will be coming to Hilo High TODAY during pd 3. See Ms. Lawrence or Ms. Frias in the LRC to sign up and pick up a pass.  We hope to see you there! 



Here's What’s New Vikings!


Filipino American History Month (Mikailee should film this part separately)

Mabuhay vikings! October is Filipino American history month. It commemorates the first arrivals of Filipinos in America on October 18, 1587. Filipino-American History month is created to promote the deep history and contribution of Filipinos in America. In celebration of the Filipino-American history month, on Wednesday, October 27 during lunch at the auditorium, we will have a tinikling dance performance and a special treat for you to enjoy. See you there! Salamat! 


Halloween Rally (someone from SA should come and film this separately)

In celebration of Halloween this year, we will be having a Halloween rally that will take place on Friday Oct. 29 during lunch in front of the Auditorium. Everyone who dresses up will earn 10 HERO points. And all costumes must be school appropriate. Additionally, there will be a trick or treat scavenger hunt. There are pictures of various treats hidden around campus and if you find them you can claim your treats during lunch in A-16. We will have games like a scavenger hunt, pumpkin bean bag toss, and much more fun activities for those who participate. Hope to see you there!


Project Koko (Filmed by Keanu Hamada and Xochi Gervais)

Good Morning Students, faculty and staff my name is Keanu Hamada and my name is Xochi Gervais. In collaboration and community service efforts with Hawaii County Fire Dept,  Hilo high schools JROTC program along with hilo high school fire science class will be offering HANDS ONLY CPR  “Project Koko” training opportunities during lunch recess on  Thursday Oct 28th from 1230-12:55pm, and again Tuesday November 23rd from 1230-12:55pm. Training will be in front of B Bldg, the Auditorium. 


We will also be pushing these lifesaving efforts out to our Hilo high school clubs, sports teams and faculty beginning with Hilo High Football, Monday, November 8th 2-3pm and Hilo High School Girls Soccer on Friday Nov 19th from 2-3pm. Senior Song Nominations

Attention all seniors! Each year, the graduating class chooses a class song to sing at the commencement ceremony. The lyrics for this song are meaningful and represents each classes journey. Please check your Viking emails for the Google Form. The link will also be available on our Instagram, @hilohigh2022. There, you will be able to nominate a song that you feel would best represent our class. You need to choose an appropriate song and must check the lyrics. Anything inappropriate will be dismissed. We will be accepting nominations until Friday, October 29th. Thank you!

Homecoming Viking Swagbags For Sale

Hey Vikings! As Homecoming approaches, we will be selling Viking Swagbags for twenty-five dollars. The swag bags will contain a Homecoming T-shirt, Pom Poms, thee Football Roster, thee Sticker, a Water bottle, Hand Sanitizer, and a Lanyard. If you would like to order, please email our Hilo High School Student Association at [email protected], indicating your T-shirt size as quantities are limited. There will be a drive through pick-up on Monday, November 1st from three o’clock to five o’clock p.m. Payments will be collected on pick-up day. Cash Only. As a reminder, our Homecoming Week begins on November second, and ends on November sixth. Thank you! 


Christian Club

Calling ALL Chrisitan Club Members! There will be a meeting during lunch THIS Friday, Oct. 29th in M-108.  We will be meeting to discuss next steps for future club meetings. New members are always welcomed to join.  Come check it out!  If you would like Mr. Masuyama to pick up a school lunch for you, please email Mr. Masuyama by Wednesday!


Senior Mob Shot 

Aloha Seniors! It is time to make your poster and get ready for mob shots, your group photo in the yearbook. Since we are still wearing masks, we will take individual photos in the LRC, Wednesday the 27th, right after school from 1:15-3pm. Please adhere to the dress code and make a poster no bigger than 2 feet by 3 feet. No contraband or bad language will be allowed. Questions? Ask Mrs. Mant in L-3. Show your Viking pride class of 2022 Dragons!

ASVAB Sign-ups 

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is coming up on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Mr. Nakasato at [email protected] to reserve your spot. Due to COVID-19 the number of test takers per session have been reduced to 30. Also the LRC will be closed all morning on November 9th to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch recess.

LRC

Attention Vikings! The Learning Resource Center (LRC) also known as the library is open for students.The LRC is open during morning, first recess and lunch.  ID’s will be required for entry. In addition, the Hilo High School Student Credit Union will open on Tuesdays and Fridays during lunch at the LRC. And beginning next week, it will be open everyday during LUNCH at the LRC.  So come visit us and open an account with our Hilo High School Student Credit Union, where you could do your banking on campus.

PTP Workshops

Seniors, do you need help finishing your PTP? Please come to the LRC TODAY during Lunch and join the PTP Workshop. The PTP is a half credit required for graduation. There is no need to sign up, just have your school ID with you and come in! If we work on it together, you can get it done


LRC Committee Designs

As you may have noticed this year, we are working toward transforming our traditional Library into a Learning Resource Center, and we are ready for your input!  This space should be something that EVERY VIKING is comfortable to use, and should offer the space and resources that help you to be successful in school.


If you are interested in submitting a design of what the LRC could look like and how it is used, pick up a blank floor plan from Mrs. Frias or Ms. Lawrence in the LRC.  Designs are due back to the LRC by Friday, October 29th at Lunch.  All submissions received by the deadline will be considered by the LRC Committee.


KauKau Cards

The Class of 2022 is still selling KauKau Cards for $20. With your KauKau Card, you will be able to receive all kinds of discounts and free goodies from local businesses. You can purchase a KauKau card in Mrs. Araki's room (C-209) every Monday and Friday during the lunch periods. If you cannot make it, please email Mikailee at [email protected]. Make sure to tell all of your family and friends and support our seniors !





HCC Visitation

SENIORS!  Are you interested in applying to our local Hawaii Community College, or the University of Hawaii at Hilo?  If so, please see Mrs. Frias in the LRC to sign up for a free application session.  Let's get our applications in early!



AP EXAM FEE COLLECTION

AP Exam fees will be collected this week, starting today through Friday in B33 during lunch recess. AP fees are $96 per test.  As of now there is no free/reduced waiver through CollegeBoard.
