1/10/2022 Letter to Parents

January 10, 2022

Dear Hilo High parents and guardians:

Our administration was made aware of an alleged threat to our campus that was sent electronically. The Hawai‘i County Police Department was notified immediately and is currently conducting an investigation. As a precautionary measure, a security plan has been initiated and officers from the Hawai‘i County Police Department will be on campus on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. School will remain open with no changes in the schedule.

All threats to our school and students are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. Terroristic threats by students are considered Class A student conduct offenses. Penalties can range from suspension to expulsion with also the likelihood of arrest and serious criminal charges. We ask for your assistance in speaking to your children about the consequences of such acts and encouraging them to make responsible decisions, such as reporting any observed suspicious behavior/activity.

Hilo High School is committed to safeguarding the physical and emotional well being of our students and we appreciate your continued support. I would like to reiterate that our school is safe.

Should you have any concerns, please contact our office at (808) 313-5500.

Sincerely,

Jasmine Urasaki

Principal
