[VIDEO: OIWI E INTRO AND KVIKS INTRO]

During the 2017-2018 School Year, Oiwi E began as a friendly schoolwide competition between the classes. The purpose of the competition was to promote School and Class Pride, Spirit and Unity.

The song, dedicated to Kumu John Keola Lake, speaks to the people of Hawaii to come together as one unit, and to promote the culture and values of our ancestors. It is for these reasons that this song was chosen.

In 2018, the sophomore class of 2020 won the first competition, then the Freshmen Class of 2022 won the second competition in 2019. During the years of 2020 and 2021, due to the pandemic, we were unable to hold the competition, but rather, a collaborative music video was made instead.

While we do not yet know how Oiwi E will take shape this school year, we honor the values of Pride, Spirit and Unity as we play versions of the song every Monday until our May Day. Without further ado, here is our first Oiwi E of the year.
