Aloha Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin. I’m Caitlin and here are your announcements for Friday, September 2, 2022. The periods today are 1-3-5-7.


The Crossing Rain concert is happening today during period 7. If you haven’t already picked up a permission pass make sure to see Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up and pick up a pass. Don’t forget that you will need the signature on your pass, and have it with you in order to attend. If you are granted permission on that day, you are responsible for any work you miss. We hope to see you there!

Hey, Seniors!  Listen up - this announcement is for you!  Scholarship information has started coming in and applications are available in the College and Career Center in N-103.  Right now, we have:The Gromet (Grow-may) Foundation Scholarship - Multiple scholarships ranging from $2,000 - $5,000 - deadline Oct 28, 2022

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship - Multiple scholarships ranging from $1,000-$12,500 - deadline Nov 14, 2022

Big Island Retired Military Association Scholarship - One $2,000 scholarship - deadline Mar 31, 2023

Start making it a habit to stop by regularly in N-103 to see what's new!


Host: Taking the PSAT/NMSQT will greatly benefit you in the long run. If you do take the PSAT/NMSQT you’re able to qualify for different scholarships, and you’re also getting practice for the real deal. Here is how you can sign up for them:

The PSAT/NMSQT is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Those who are 9th-11th grade, interested in att ending college and taking the SAT should highly consider taking this practice test to better prepare you for the real SAT.

11th graders who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch tests free.

For all others, the test costs $18.

Hey Seniors!  Are you interested in applying to Hawaii Community College here in Hilo?  See Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up for a FREE APPLICATION SESSION on Friday, September 9th scheduled for 4th or 6th periods.  Apply early, and get accepted early so you can be that much closer to college!

Did you pick up an application to be a Hilo High Student Credit Union student teller and haven't turned them in yet? Be sure to turn in your papers by this week at the branch located in LRC  during lunch. We still have an opening position left to be filled. Thank you! 


[SPOT] Math Club

Are you interested in joining our Hilo High Math Club?  We will have an informational meeting on Thursday, September 1 during lunch recess in Mrs. Fukushima's room R-12.  Forms will be passed out so old and new members , please attend. 


[SPOT] JROTC

Hello, my name is C/CSM Nikolas Galdones. Attention all JROTC Cadets, our JROTC Teapresso Fundraiser is approaching. The fundraiser will be on September 4th, from 8:00am to 5:00pm at Goodyear Auto Service. We expect every cadet to participate, and everyone else is welcome to attend. The funds will go towards our joint Military Ball. If you are interested in signing up, please ask your class leader.  Thank you.


[SPOT] College/Career Counseling

Good morning, Vikings!  The College and Career Center has the following speaker sessions scheduled for September:


Puget Sound University (Tacoma, Washington) - Thurs, Sept 8 @ 8:30am during pd 1

The United States Army - Wed, Sept 14 @ 10:00 am during pd 4

Hawaii Pacific University (Honolulu, HI) - Thurs, Sept 27 @ 8:30am during pd 1


If you're interested in attending any of these sessions, please sign up and pick up a pass from Ms. Lawrence or Mrs. Frias in N-103.  We are constantly adding more sessions, so be sure to check the schedule regularly. Thank you!


[SPOT] Hawaiian Club 

Aloha mai kākou!  Are you looking to learn a little bit about our Hawaiian culture?  Are you looking to meet other people who love the Hawaiian culture like you?  Well, come and join our Hawaiian Club.  Come to K101 (Kumu ʻAwaʻs room ) during lunch recess next week on Wednesday, September 7th to learn about our Hawaiian Club. ASVAB Testing

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Tuesday, September 13th, 2022.

The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot. 

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.  The LRC will be closed all morning on Tuesday,  September 13th, 2022 to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch.
