Unity Day

Aloha Vikings! TODAY, is Unity day! Hopefully you are wearing orange in support of Unity Day. Don’t forget to come show us your orange in the patio during recess and lunch to redeem your 10 Hero points. Let's be united for kindness, acceptance and aloha!


Key Club

Hey Key Clubbers!! We will be having our weekly meeting TODAY during lunch at the pool. Attending all club briefings is a requirement for all members so please be prompt. If you haven't turned in your club dues or picked up your orange UNICEF box yet please come to Ma's room at A-16 by Thursday to turn in your $15 and/or retrieve your box. Thank you!! 


Hilo High Student Credit Union

Hey Vikings! The Hilo High Student Credit Union is once again hiring a student teller to work for our student credit union! Being a Student Credit Union teller has many benefits such as making extra cash, learning new skills, and an experience to add to your resume. Also, if you are a current Hilo High Student credit union member and want experience in both leadership and community service, you should join our Student Credit Union Board of Directors. Being a board director will allow you to experience leadership and community service. This will open you to new experiences and community service. If you are interested, pickup an application at the Student Credit Union located at the LRC. Apply now and take advantage of this amazing opportunity! GEAR UP

To the class of 2024, are any of you thinking about going to college in the mainland? Would you like to experience what life would be like in another state? Well, GEAR UP is offering you an opportunity to find out. GEAR UP would like to take 10 students from the class of 2024 to both Washington and Oregon to visit college campuses during the summer of 2023. An informational meeting will be held in B-35 during lunch and after school on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Come to the meeting to find out how you can be a part of this amazing opportunity.

ASVAB Testing

Are you planning on joining the military post-high school? If so, you should take the ASVAB. The ASVAB results will tell you your strengths and ability in science, math, and language. The next ASVAB administration is on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot. 

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.

Seal of Biliteracy

If you are a Senior this year, and understand another language other than English, you should consider applying for the Seal of Biliteracy.


The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE) in recognition of students who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional language by high school graduation.


Seal of Biliteracy Honorees will receive:

A medal - which can be worn at the graduation ceremony

A certificate

Seal of Biliteracy added to the transcript


You can learn more about the Seal of Biliteracy by attending the informational meeting, this Friday October 21st during lunch in B-45 Shehata Sensei’s room.

Hilo High Swim Team

If you are interested in swimming for the Hilo High School Swim Team? Tryouts will be held on November 4, 2022. Every Tuesday and Thursday until that day, there will be technique sessions hosted from 3 - 4 PM at the pool. No club swim experience required.


KUPU Summer Youth Conservation Program

Hey, Junior and Senior Vikings!  Do you love the outdoors? Are you passionate about conservation and preservation of our 'aina?  Come to N-103 to sign up to learn more about the KUPU Summer Youth Conservation Program.  The presentation will be on Thursday, October 20th at 9:00am during period 1.  Sign up and pick up a pass from Mrs. Frias to learn more about how to become a Kupu Summer Team Member.  Just think - you can get paid to camp and work all over our island during the summer of 2023!  


Upward Bound Program

Listen up, Class of 2025 and 2026 - this announcement is for YOU!  Are you thinking about what it might be like to go to college, but you're not quite sure how you're going to get there?  The Upward Bound Program at UH Hilo can help!  See Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up and pick up a pass to listen to information about how you might be able to join.  Representatives from UH Hilo Upward Bound will be at Hilo High on Thursday, October 20th during pd 5.  We hope to see you there!


Youth Art Series Haunted House

Are you looking for some spooky fun this month? The East Hawai'i Cultural Center and Hilo High Art Club would like to invite you to the Youth Art Series Haunted House, opening this weekend at 141 Kalakaua Street. Can't make it this weekend? The haunted house will be open every weekend through the month of October.
