HOST: Aloha Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin. I’m Erin, today’s date is Thursday, October 20, 2022. The periods are 1-3-5-7.


BIIF’s Air Riflery Individual Championships was on Saturday, October 15, 2022.


Haeli Baldwin, a first time shooter placed 5th Place in Girls Individual Championship. For the Boys Individual Championship, Nikolas Galdones took 3rd Place and Kamamalu Kotake took 5th place.


Congratulations to all BIIF qualifiers and to all athletes headed to compete at States. The HHSAA Air Riflery States Tournament will be held at the Blaisdell Center on October 25, 2022.


We also want to shout out our Girls Volleyball team for placing 2nd Place for BIIF Division I Championships. The Viking’s season doesn’t end here as they still have a chance for states. GO VIKS!


Tomorrow, October 21, 2022 is football senior night! Come down at Francis Wong Stadium for the match up. Starting with Junior Varsity followed by Varsity. Follow at hilo high athletics on instagram for the latest updates.

Seal of Biliteracy

If you are a Senior this year, and understand another language other than English, you should consider applying for the Seal of Biliteracy.


The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE) in recognition of students who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional language by high school graduation.


Seal of Biliteracy Honorees will receive:

A medal - which can be worn at the graduation ceremony

A certificate

Seal of Biliteracy added to the transcript


You can learn more about the Seal of Biliteracy by attending the informational meeting, this Friday October 21st during lunch in B-45 Shehata Sensei’s room.

Youth Art Series Haunted House

Are you looking for some spooky fun this month? The East Hawai'i Cultural Center and Hilo High Art Club would like to invite you to the Youth Art Series Haunted House, opening this weekend at 141 Kalakaua Street. Can't make it this weekend? The haunted house will be open every weekend through the month of October. 


Hilo High Swim Team

If you are interested in swimming for the Hilo High School Swim Team? Tryouts will be held on November 4, 2022. Every Tuesday and Thursday until that day, there will be technique sessions hosted from 3 - 4 PM at the pool. No club swim experience required.


KUPU Summer Youth Conservation Program

Hey, Junior and Senior Vikings!  Do you love the outdoors? Are you passionate about conservation and preservation of our 'aina?  Come to N-103 to sign up to learn more about the KUPU Summer Youth Conservation Program.  The presentation will be on Thursday, October 20th at 9:00am during period 1.  Sign up and pick up a pass from Mrs. Frias to learn more about how to become a Kupu Summer Team Member.  Just think - you can get paid to camp and work all over our island during the summer of 2023!  


Upward Bound Program

Listen up, Class of 2025 and 2026 - this announcement is for YOU!  Are you thinking about what it might be like to go to college, but you're not quite sure how you're going to get there?  The Upward Bound Program at UH Hilo can help!  See Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up and pick up a pass to listen to information about how you might be able to join.  Representatives from UH Hilo Upward Bound will be at Hilo High on Thursday, October 20th during pd 5.  We hope to see you there!


ASVAB Testing

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot.

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.

The LRC will be closed all morning on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022 to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch.
