Hey Vikings! Maraming Salamat for helping us celebrate the Filipino-American History Month during yesterday’s lunch rally. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the festivities we’ve prepared. 


Also the Filipino word of the day is “Matapang” which mean “strong”.


You can use this sentence like, “Ako ay matapang” which translates to “I am strong”. 


Cheer Team Competition

The BIIF Championships for the Cheer Competition is TODAY, October 27, 2022 and starts at 5:00 PM. It will be located at WHS Gym and the doors opens at 4:00 PM. Come and support our HHS Cheer Team!!


Halloween Rally

Hey Vikings! Tomorrow, October 28th, there will be a Halloween rally! Don’t forget to dress up in your Halloween costume and come join us for a fashion contest at lunch. Also, there will be a teacher dress up contest for class council. Be sure to sign up to participate and we hope to see you there! 


Freshman Council Training

Attention Freshman Class Council! The Senior Class Council will be hosting a one-on-one training session for all freshman class officers and STARS representatives. 


Please report to Mr. Finley's room, C-110 at lunch recess TODAY, October 27th! If you are unable to make it, please inform your class advisors! 


YWCA “Walk a Mile”

Hey, Viking Students, Faculty and Staff! The YWCA “Walk A Mile” will take place on Saturday, October 29th, at 7:30 AM at the YWCA Hilo. If you are interested in participating, or cannot participate but would like to help, make a donation to the event, please see Mrs. Frias in N-103 for permission forms. This walk is open to ALL who wish to stand up against violence and assault - we hope to see you there!

For Lunch: Roast Pork with Gravy, Steamed Rice, Broccoli or Baby Carrots, Fruit Juice, and Fresh Fruit or a Whole Grain Roll

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Hey creative Vikings! Are you interested in award and scholarship opportunities? The Scholastic Art & Writing awards are open for submissions. The deadline to submit is December 15th, 2022.  Go to artandwriting.org for submission guidelines or see Ms. Z in room L-4 for assistance. 


Class of 2023 Senior Prom Committee

Seniors! Interested in helping to plan your senior prom? The prom committee's first meeting will be held on next week Tuesday, November 1st during lunch recess at room R24. Hope to see you there!


Youth Art Series Haunted House

Are you looking for some spooky fun this month? The East Hawai'i Cultural Center and Hilo High Art Club would like to invite you to the Youth Art Series Haunted House, opening this weekend at 141 Kalakaua Street. Can't make it this weekend? The haunted house will be open every weekend through the month of October. 


Hilo High Swim Team

If you are interested in swimming for the Hilo High School Swim Team? Tryouts will be held on November 4, 2022. Every Tuesday and Thursday until that day, there will be technique sessions hosted from 3 - 4 PM at the pool. No club swim experience required.


ASVAB Testing

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot.

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.

The LRC will be closed all morning on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022 to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch.
