That’s better, I’m Princess Fiona, today’s date is Friday, October 28, 2022. The periods are 2-4-6.


Now, you might be wondering, today’s not HALLOWEEN! We know! Monday is! However, there is NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY due to PC Day, so we hope you are all dressed up TODAY! Speaking of which, Come join us for a halloween fashion contest during lunch at the rally. Also, there will be a teacher dress up contest for class council. Be sure to sign up before lunch to participate! We hope to see you there! And now, here is the Filipino word of the day.

Mabuhay Vikings! Today's Filipino word of the day is Multo which means, “ghost.” You can use this sentence like, “may multo sa likod mo!” which means, “there's a ghost behind you!”


We would like to thank everyone for being part of our Filipino word of the day, we hope everyone had fun learning new Filipino words. Maraming Salamat!

SPORTS UPDATES!

Hilo High School has a STATE CHAMPION! Congratulations to Nikolas Galdones from Hilo High Air Riflery for shooting first place for Individual Boys and JROTC Boys. WAY TO GO! We also thank your parents, Coach Rayner and Catherine Galdones for coaching all these years, and we wish them well at the end of their final season.


Also, our football team is heading BACK to Konawaena High School this Saturday for a final matchup, WINNER TAKES ALL, BIIF Division One FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP game. Kick off is at 7 PM, drive over to support our Viking football team! OR…. tune in LIVE at hilohigh.org/livesports to watch the broadcast done by KVIKS Media.

HOSA Future Health Professional Club

Attention HOSA Future Health Professional Club Members!

We will be having our club meeting TODAY at lunch in Room L-2, Mr. Assi's Classroom. We will be sharing information regarding the upcoming Maui and Hawaii island regional conference. Your attendance is important and required. Thank you and see you at lunch!  


Next week for College and Career Visitations:

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022 the Northern Arizona University will be visiting during period 2.

Then on the same day, Cal Poly San Louise Obizpo will be visiting during period 4.

Lastly, on November 4, 2022 the UH Manoa College Opportunities Program will be visiting during period 3. 


If you are interested in any of these sessions, please see Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up and get a pass. 


Youth Art Series Haunted House

Are you looking for some spooky fun this month? The East Hawai'i Cultural Center and Hilo High Art Club would like to invite you to the Youth Art Series Haunted House, opening this weekend at 141 Kalakawa Street. Can't make it this weekend? The haunted house will be open every weekend through the month of October.

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Hey creative Vikings! Are you interested in award and scholarship opportunities? The Scholastic Art & Writing awards are open for submissions. The deadline to submit is December 15th, 2022.  Go to artandwriting.org for submission guidelines or see Ms. Z in room L-4 for assistance. 


YWCA “Walk a Mile”

Hey, Viking Students, Faculty and Staff! The YWCA “Walk A Mile” will take place on Saturday, October 29th, at 7:30 AM at the YWCA Hilo. If you are interested in participating, or cannot participate but would like to help, make a donation to the event, please see Mrs. Frias in N-103 for permission forms. This walk is open to ALL who wish to stand up against violence and assault - we hope to see you there!  


Class of 2023 Senior Prom Committee

Seniors! Interested in helping to plan your senior prom? The prom committee's first meeting will be held on next week Tuesday, November 1st during lunch recess at room R24. Hope to see you there!


Hilo High Swim Team

If you are interested in swimming for the Hilo High School Swim Team? Tryouts will be held on November 4, 2022. Every Tuesday and Thursday until that day, there will be technique sessions hosted from 3 - 4 PM at the pool. No club swim experience required.


ASVAB Testing

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. The test will be administered in the Learning Resource Center and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot.

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.

The LRC will be closed all morning on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022 to accommodate the test and reopen during lunch.
