Hilo Youth Ambassadors for Tsunami Awareness

Three of the Hilo High Students, Hokulani Thomas, Khallie Matsumoto, and Seneca Ivey have been actively involved as the Hilo's Youth Ambassadors for Tsunami Awareness. The Pacific Tsunami Museum in Hilo invited them to present at the Iwate Tsunami Memorial Museum Exchange Event on November 19th. The purpose of this event was to introduce the efforts of high school students to pass on their experiences and lessons learned from the disaster,  and to discuss the goals and challenges of future activities, in order to foster the development of human resources who will be responsible for passing on these lessons and engage in local disaster mitigation activities. Hilo High team was mentored by Dr. Walter Dudley, and successfully presented virtually at the conference and participated in a Q&A session with students from Iwate in Japan and Aceh in Indonesia, representatives from the museums, and professors from Tohoku University.

Since the Hilo High Hoku, Khallie, and Seneca did such a great job presenting at the first conference, they are now invited to the 4th World Tsunami Museum Conference 2022 on December 14, and they will present virtually their new presentation.

Please congratulate on their successful presentation at the International conferences and their hard work!
