The first day of homecoming week brought with it many special events. The main event, however, was the homecoming rally that took place after recess. This rally brought with it many of its own events.

The first event at the rally was the class banner competition. Each class, going from the Freshman class to the Senior class, were given a chance to show off their class banners for the whole school to see.

The second event was the class decoration contest. Each class decorated their part of the bleachers to corelate with their respective themes. The Freshman’s theme was Micky Mouse, the Sophomore’s theme was The Wizard of OZ, the Junior’s theme was Moana, and the Senior’s theme was The Lion King.

To wrap up the Homecoming Rally was a speech given by Curtis Chong, a Hilo High Alumni from the class of 1970, gave a heartfelt speech to the school about loyalty, integrity, and what it truly means to be a Viking.

The first day of Homecoming was definitely one to remember. So many amazing events occurred in just this one day, and it sets a precedent for how exciting these next coming days will be.
