[KVIKS NEWS BULLETIN INTRO]    -

Rianne: Hello Freshman Class of 2027! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin for Tuesday, August 8th, 2023. I’m Rianne Empaynado, a Junior from the Class of 2025 and KVIKS Media President. We warmly welcome you to our Viking family.

The periods today are ALL of them. 1, 2, 3 ,4, 5 ,6 ,7. You are watching the K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin, your source for the latest news at Hilo High School. The bulletin is part of your day as it is scheduled daily at 8:10 AM on the bell schedule. Your teachers are responsible for playing the new bulletin every day. The bulletin is available in several different areas, and today, we are going to show you how to access it and keep up to date with Hilo High School. I’ll now hand you to Clara who will tell you more about the bulletin.

Clara: Hilo High Bulletin

Hi, I’m Clara Steele, a Junior of the Class of 2025. The KVIKS News Bulletin is posted online on the Hilo High School Youtube channel and at hilohigh.org. Hover over KVIKS and click on Daily News Bulletin, where you’ll find the transcript of the bulletin so you can quickly read through rather than watch the whole thing. The bulletin is uploaded ahead of time, so you can enjoy it before anyone else.

If you’re using a Chromebook on campus, the first page is the HHS portal, where the bulletin is embedded for easy access. Most of the announcements may appear on the News tab under All News on our website, hilohigh.org. If you are looking for an individual announcement, you may want to check there as well.

The Hilo HIgh App

You can also find the bulletin and much more on the Hilo High School mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android and downloadable from the app store. The Hilo High app gives you access to the KVIKS News Bulletin, all of our social media accounts, and news from the website. You can also view the Food Menu, Bell Schedule, School Year Calendar, contact Teachers, and much more! Most importantly, there is an anonymous tip line that you can use to report any issues on campus immediately. However, if you want a Hilo High School official to follow up with you directly, there is a field where you can input your contact information. The tip line goes directly to people who can act upon it, so please do not be afraid to use it.

Now back to you Rianne!

Rianne:

Thank you Clara! Now you might wonder, who’s in charge of making Bulletin, broadcasting live events, and doing all this cool website management? Well, it’s KVIKS Media, of course! KVIKS Media is a part of the school’s Technology Department and has a chartered club for us students to join and do exciting things on campus. KVIKS Media introduces students to video and studio production by means of the KVIKS News Bulletin. We also provide Audio/Video Services for Rallies and Special Events such as Freshman Only Day, we broadcast special events and athletic Competitions. We create things such as banners, take pictures, manage the website, social media, and mobile app, as well as work with industry partners such as PBS Hawaii and Na Leo TV.

KVIKS Media offers excellent opportunities and experiences for students such as you and me! Interested in joining? Go to kviks.org and fill out the contact survey, better yet, come and visit us in C-117! We are looking for committed members who are available to come to our live streams, events and other activities. It’s an amazing club and I hope you consider joining!

Before we go, we would like you to become familiar with the school bells. The morning bell sounds like this: (play audio sample), this indicates that you should report to your first class of the day. The tardy bell, which sounds like this: (play sample) will signal that you are tardy and must receive a tardy slip from the office. At the end of the period, recess and lunch, the bell sounds like this. (play sample) At the end of the day, this bell will ring (play sample), which means the school day is over. If you hear the following bell, that signals the end of a safety drill. (play sample)

Got it? I am sure you will be used to the sounds of the bells. If you want to know the latest bell schedule, be sure to check out the school website, hilohigh.org.
