[SPOT] Identification Cards [Mr. Trimble]

Hello Vikings. This is Mr. Trimble, your Vice Principal. All students should have a Hilo High School Identification Card on their person at all times while on campus and while attending school functions. The Student ID Card is used for verification of student identity, school meal accounts, the HERO system, the library system, and other various purposes.

One of the most important times to have your Student ID Card is when purchasing any school meal.  If you are not aware, Hilo High is a participating Community Eligibility Program (CEP) School.  In short, this means that all Hilo High students are able to receive one FREE breakfast or wiki AND, one FREE lunch, per school day!

The school meal service periods are busy times for everyone.  Yes, the lines can be very long and at times, may move very slowly.  That is why it is so important that all students are prepared and ready to zip through the service lines.  Here are the detailed steps to receiving school meals:

1 - Have your ID ready, preferably hanging on your lanyard around your neck, from a clip, or unobstructed in your hand.

2 - Stand and move attentively through the service lines.

Line cutting, horseplay, and saving spots for others are against school rules, and honestly....it's just not cool to do that.

3 - Receive your meal & included milk.

4 - Thank our cafeteria staff and smile.

5 - Present your unobstructed Student ID Card at the point of sale cashier to complete your lunch sale.  The barcode on your card will be scanned and the cashier will verify that you are in fact the person pictured on the ID Card.

That's it - 5 easy steps - It is really that simple.

Not having your ID card causes unnecessary delays at the service lines.

New and Replacement Student IDs are currently free of charge to all students, although replacement fees may be applied later in the school year.  SO.....head over to the main office during morning or lunch recess to obtain a Student ID card if you don't already have one.

When you are hungry, it's important to know,

Have your ID ready, so the lines aren't so slow!

Thank you.

[Back to Anchor]

We want to take Mr. Trimble’s reminders very seriously as starting today, the Cafeteria is NOW CLOSED! All of wiki and lunch is to be picked up from the patio kiosk STARTING TODAY for the foreseeable future. So students, please have your unobstructed ID card ready for scanning so that we can serve you all in a quick and orderly fashion.

AVID Nalu Kai

During Fall break, Nalukai is offering East Hawaiʻi Island high schools an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with social, cultural and commercial entrepreneurship. Through a week-long, in-person day camp inclusive of team work sessions, a field trip, and meetings with adult mentors (entrepreneurs, cultural practitioners, educators, and community leaders), students will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing our island and collaborate with others to develop products, services and other solutions to address them. As they develop their ventures, students will gain and practice essential leadership, entrepreneurship and presentation skills.
