Welcome back from Break Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin for Tuesday, October 17th, 2023. I’m Tyra. The periods today are 1-3-5 and 7.


Academy Attendance Challenge

We hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating week off, and are ready to be back in school everyday!  For the week of Sept 25-29, the Academy Attendance Challenge results are as follows:


4th place:  Freshman Academy 90.43% [pause]

3rd place: Construction & Engineering 90.74% [pause]

2nd place:  Business & Natural Resources 92.21% [pause]

1st place: Health & Human Services 94.90%[pause]


Congratulations Health & Human Services!  And just a reminder for ALL Vikings - even if you had absences in the 1st quarter, lets all strive for PERFECT ATTENDANCE for the 2nd quarter to balance out your averages!  Stay tuned for announcements about attendance incentives coming soon!


Unity Day (10/17 - 10/18/23)

This Wednesday, October 18th, is UNITY DAY! This is our day to stand up to bullying and spread kindness. Please wear orange on October 18th to show your support. Come to room A-16 today to pick up a paper to make your own poster in support of anti-bullying. We'll be sign-waving our posters in the morning before school on Unity Day, so if you make a sign be sure to come support with us!


Interested in Model UN? (10/17/23-10/20/23)

We are looking for members for the year of 2023-2024. This club will have meetings to discuss current events, political changes, the United Nations, and ways to improve the community. We will be participating and running many service projects and volunteering around the school and town! So make sure to Join! You can sign up with this QR code, or contact our President for more information.Our meetings are every even Friday from 1pm-3pm in Mrs. Aiona's Room (C219)


Driver’s Education (10/6/23- 10/13/23)

Do you want to get your license, but need to take a Driver Education class?  Sign up on the HHS website.  Sign-up is continuous and classes are planned for the entire year, so get on the waitlist!  The next class will begin in November!


Upward Bound (10/17 - 10/18/23)

Welcome back from Fall Break, Vikings!  We're happy to announce that beginning Wednesday, October 18th, UH Hilo's Upward Bound Counselors Nikki and Claire will be on Hilo High's campus from 11:00am - 11:45am in room N-102 EVERY WEDNESDAY!  If you are a current Upward Bound student, or interested in applying, stop in to see Nikki and Claire any Wednesday.  Hope to see you there!


HOSA Special Meeting (10/17 - 10/18/23)

There is a special meeting on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in Mr. Assi's class, room L2 for HOSA members. Your attendance is required as we are preparing for the upcoming Big Island Regional conference next month. 17 club members have been successfully registered online to the conference and we hope to qualify all the conference participants for the state competition in January 2024 on OAHU. We will have Practice session everyday in Mr Assi’s room during lunch. Please attend these sessions as you will have practice questions only for your competitive event.

Please bring your conference registration fee and complete all required documentation for the competitive events in Medical Terminology, Medical Math, Nursing assisting, and Medical Law & Ethics. See you all there and get ready for the competition!


College and Career Visitations

Columbia University is visiting Oct. 18 2023 during pd.2 at 9:00am. While Charleston Southern University is visiting Oct.18 during pd.4 at 10:00am.  If you are interested in any of these upcoming presentations come to Rm N-103 to sign up.

[SPOT] Viking Sports News (10/17 - 10/18/2023)

This is Viking Sports News. 


This week Saturday, October 21st, Cross Country is at Keaʻau High School, starting at 9 AM and the BIIF Finals for Air Riflery will be hosted on our campus at 9 AM.


Last week, the Football team won against Kealakehe 21 to 6. They play against the Waiakea Warriors this Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Waiakea High School at 6pm.


Last week, the Girls Volleyball team swept the Kealakehe Waveriders 3 to 0. This week they have their final two home games on Tuesday October 17, vs Keaau and their senior night on Thursday, October 19, 2023 vs Waiakea. JV to start at 5 PM with Varsity to follow. Both games to be broadcasted by KVIKS Media. According to the Hawaii Tribune Herald, the Hilo High Girls Volleyball Team is seeded number 2 behind Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, all they need to do is win the next two matches to keep it! Girls Basketball (9/12/23- 10/30/23)

Any girls that are interested in playing basketball for the school come to the old gym on Monday, Wednesday or Friday @ 6:30pm. Or Tuesday and Thursday @ 6-7pm


Math Tutoring (10/2/23- 10/20/23)

Do you want help with your math skills and work?  Math tutoring is being offered daily in the mornings and after school by Ms. Park (room A-21) and/or Ms. Arbles (room A-22)....Please feel free to come by room A-21 for more information.  Attached is the schedule for math tutoring you can also find it on hilohig.org ...Hope to see you there!
