[Z]Academy Attendance Challenge (11/21/23-11/21/23)
Here's the attendance challenge standings for the week of November 6-9th.
4th place: Freshman Academy 89.1%
3rd place: Academy of Business and Natural Resources 90.43%
2nd place: Academy of Construction and Engineering 90.54%
1st place: Academy of Health and Human Services 91.89%
We're in the last half of the 2nd quarter - let's pick up the attendance, Vikings!
[R]Competitive College Sports (11/21/23-12/1/23)
Are you interested in learning more about playing competitive sports in college? If you are, you're in luck! Hilo High School is teaming up with UH Hilo's Athletic Department to provide all the information you need to get started. Join us on Wednesday, December 6th @ 5:30pm in the Hilo High Auditorium. Let us know if you're coming by scanning the QR code on the flyer. All grades are welcome, and we hope to see you there!
[Z]Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest (11/14/23-11/22/23)
As you all know Thanksgiving is coming up and to celebrate our thanks, we are having a Pumpkin Pie eating contest! It will be during lunch on Wednesday, November 22nd in front of the auditorium. Happy Holidays Vikings and remember to give thanks to those you love!
[R]Christmas Corner (11/20/23-11/27/23)
If you are interested in decorating your corner for Christmas Corners, stop by Room R-13 during recess or lunch to pickup a packet and SA-1 forms. Each corner “lead” must submit all necessary documents and forms to Room R-13 by Monday, November 27th. Questions about the packet? Feel free to visit R-13 for any questions or concerns, and we'll be happy to help you complete your packet. Remember, spots are limited, and locations are granted on a first come, first serve basis, so don't wait!
[Z]ASVAB Testing (11/9/23-11/22/23)
All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023. The test will be administered in C-215 and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB.
Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot.
Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.
C-215 will be closed all morning on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023 to accommodate the test.
[R]Winter Ball (11/16/23-11/22/23)
The Hilo High School 2023 Winter Ball will be hosted on Saturday, December 16, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the new gym. Packet pick-ups started on November 16th, and will continue on the 17th, 21st, and 22nd. Just as a reminder, please come to pick up your packet for the winter ball at F-Building during lunch if you haven’t already. Thank you!
[Z]Hui Hawai’i Meeting (11/21/23-11/22/23)
Aloha Hui Hawai’i Members! We have a meeting this Wednesday at kumu ‘Awa’s room K101. We will be collecting field-trip forms, fundraiser money, and t-shirt money. See you guys there! Mahalo nui!

Clara: Thanks! These are my donations going to the Viking Canned Food Drive!
Nathan: Food drive? What is that?
Clara: You don’t know?? There is a canned food drive in front of room A-16 going on RIGHT NOW!!! Have any canned goods lying around at home? Now is the time to give them to people in need!
Nathan: Oh cool! I’ll be sure to drop off some canned goods in front of A-16 this week! Thanks for the reminder!
Clara: Yep! Remember you only have until THIS Wednesday, November 22nd to donate, let’s all share the spirit of giving!

Viking Canned Food Drive(11/13/23-11/22/23)
Thanksgiving is here so now it's time for our Viking Canned Food Drive! It will be taking place from November 8th to the 22nd and will be a COMPETITION between the classes! The class that is able to get the most cans will be pieing an advisor from each of the losing classes in the face- so if you want to donate some canned goods and help your class out, drop your canned goods off in front of room A-16 starting Wednesday, November 8th. Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (11/3/23-12/2/23)
Calling all Hilo High Students interested in Poetry! The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth are currently hosting the 2023-24 Poetry Out Loud Video Submission Contest! To participate, choose two poems from a collection of over 1,000 poems to recite for a chance to participate in the State Finals on February 25, 2024, win $200, and the opportunity to compete for the title of National Champion in Spring 2024! Videos are due on December 31st, to register, contact [email protected] or DM @hi_pol on Instagram. Don't miss out on this awesome opportunity to share your love for the arts and express yourself.
Jingle Bell Color Run (11/16/23-11/30/23)
The sophomore and junior class is hosting the 2nd annual Jingle Bell Color Run. December 10th at 3:00 pm at the Hilo Bayfront Soccer Fields...Registration can be made online . This event will benefit not only the sophomore and junior class but you as well. Join in on the fun and sign up for the Jingle Bell Color Run. For more information, please see Ms. MJ Tominaga.
