TODAY AT HILO HIGH SCHOOL


Junior Prom (1/18/23-1/26/23)

Hey Jaguars! Junior Prom, "Magical Masquerade", will be on March 16, 2024 at the Arc of Hilo. Packet distribution will be held at lunch recess from January 22-26 at room A-2. Forms and bids will be due from March 5-9 at lunch recess at room A-2 as well. Please clear any obligations at the front office before picking up a packet. Bid prices will be $55 for Hilo High Juniors and $65 for Hilo High Non-Juniors. Please bring your ID to pick up your packet. We hope to see you there, thank you.


HCC and UH Hilo Applications (1/25/24-1/26/24)

Hey, Seniors.  Remember that Hawaii Community College and University of Hawaii at Hilo will be at Hilo High School, TODAY, January 26th during lunch to help with free applications if you haven't applied yet.  See Mrs. Frias to sign up, or just come by during lunch to apply.  Pizza or taco lunch will be provided to everyone who applies!


May Day Applications (1/22/24-1/26/24)

WHAT’S NEW VIKINGS?


Boys Basketball Senior Night (1/25/24-1/26/24)

Aloha Vikings, on  Saturday, January 27th, 2024 the Boys Basketball will be having their Senior Night against the Kamehameha Warriors with JV @ 5:30 and Varsity to follow at the New Gym. Come and support our Hilo High Vikings and recognize the seniors that will be having their final shot and lei giving after the game is finished. The theme is black out so come in black or Hilo High attire. The student section will be located behind the KVIKS media table. Thank you! 


Seal of Biliteracy Field Trip (1/26/23-2/1/23)

This announcement is for all Seal of Biliteracy Seniors.  Please check the Seal of Biliteracy Google Classroom for information about a field trip opportunity you can apply for.  The University of Hawaii at Manoa is putting on a Multilingual Career Development Day on Wednesday, Apr 3rd.  They are sponsoring 9 students from Hilo High School to attend.  If you are interested in attending please scan the QR Code on the screen to complete the Google Form Application by Friday, February 2nd.  Please see Mrs. Frias in N-103 if you have any questions. (QR Code is attached). 


Senior Prom Payment Collection (1/25/24-2/2/23)

Aloha Seniors! Senior Prom Payment Collection starts on Monday January 29 and will =last till Friday Feb 2, 2024 outside of Mr. Yamamotoʻs Room, R-13 during LUNCH ONLY. Please come with completed and signed packets, and a copy of your Photo ID with exact cash payments. If you are bringing a guest, you must submit guest payments and completed packets together. We are no longer distributing anymore packets. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Yamamoto. Thank you! 


Early College Classes (1/23/24-1/30/24)

Hey, Vikings!  Are you interested in learning more about taking Early College classes this summer or next school year?  Please come to N-102 to meet with Mrs. Frias during LUNCH on Monday, January 29th or Tuesday, January 30th to learn more.  In these sessions, you will learn about the different Early College classes Hilo High School has to offer, as well as get information on how to begin the application process.  Thank you!

Boys and Girls Tennis Sign-Ups (1/9 - 1/26/2024)

Are you interested in trying out for Boys and Girls Tennis? See   to sign up and get information about practices going on. Try-outs will be from Monday February 12 through Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Physicals need to be turned in before then in order to try out and are also good for 1 year from appointment.


Youth Art Exhibition (1/10/24-1/26/24)

Submissions for the East Hawai'i Cultural Center Youth Art Exhibition are due by January 27th. All mediums are welcome & there is no theme this year. Please see Ms. Z in L-4 for submission guidance. 


Valentine's Roses (1/19/23-1/26/23)

Hey Vikings! We hope you are all having a great first month of the year! As you all know, Valentine's Day is coming up and like last year, the Student Association is going to be selling items for you to purchase for your Valentine or your friends. This year we are going to be selling roses again which will be three dollars for one rose and eight dollars for three, we are also selling teddy bear goodie bags for two dollars and little boxes of chocolates for one dollar. Along with these items, like last year, you will be able to add on an anonymous delivery for one dollar. We will be having pre-orders during the week of January 22nd to the 26th where you can come to A-16 during lunch and pre-select and pay for your items which can be either delivered or picked up on February 14th.

KINDESS WEEK (1/25/24- 2/1/24)

Person 1: Hey Vikings, Jan. 29-Feb. 2 is Kindness week! On our campus, we will be celebrating this week by asking our Viking Ohana to recognize individuals who have been seen completing an act of kindness. 


 person 2: How do I participate in kindness week? 


Person 1: Look for the posters around campus with a QR code! Once you find it, use your mobile device to scan the QR code to submit a nomination. 


Person 2: Who can participate? Person 1: Anyone on our campus–students, teachers, administrators, custodians, security, etc. All you need is access to your k12 account. 


Person 2: We would like to remind you all that kindness has no boundaries, so we want to encourage you all to participate in the activity this week. Anyone on campus can nominate or be nominated–so keep an eye out for those random acts of kindness!


Person 1: Once the nominations are submitted for the week, we will be randomly selecting names to give out prizes! Winners will be announced on Friday February 02.

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS


ASVAB Testing (1/10/24-1/29/24)

All 10th-12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024. The test will be administered in C-217 and will start promptly at 8:10 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. 


Email Ms. Arquero at [email protected] to reserve your spot.

Due to COVID-19, the number of test-takers per session has been reduced to 30.

C-217 will be closed all morning on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024 to accommodate the test.


Boys and Girls Judo Practices (1/24/24-1/29/24)

ATTENTION VIKINGS INTERESTED IN JOINING THE BOYS & GIRLS JUDO TEAM!  This is a friendly reminder that pre-season voluntary conditioning and mat practice has started.  Practices are Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays from 4pm-5pm.  Practice location is off campus at 216 Mohouli Street (a short 30 minute walk from campus). FOR THOSE CURRENTLY PLAYING A WINTER SPORT....Please contact Coach Kerwyn at 808-217-3619 (call or text) ASAP if you intend to join.
