June 12, 2024 LTP: Annual Notification of Surveillance Cameras

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This letter serves as Hilo High School’s annual notification of the presence of video surveillance cameras on buildings throughout campus.   Video surveillance cameras help us deter unauthorized persons from entering our campus and offices, deter vandalism and property damage, discourages students from inappropriate behavior, and assists in the investigation of incidents.

Recorded video images are viewed exclusively under the discretion of school administration and are only used in connection with investigating misconduct, safeguarding buildings and equipment, and assisting law

enforcement.  All cameras are in use only in areas that are considered public spaces where there is no expectation of privacy - school entrances, hallways, exteriors of buildings, and other open areas on campus.  Cameras will not be installed in any area where students, staff, or visitors may have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as classrooms, teacher workrooms, and restrooms.

Installing surveillance cameras is just one part of our school’s plan to create a safe, secure, and orderly

learning environment for everyone at Hilo High School.

If you have any questions regarding surveillance cameras, please call our office at (808) 313-5500.

Sincerely,

Jasmine Urasaki
Principal
