The Abot-kamay na Pangarap (Filipino Outreach/GEAR UP Project) of Hawaii Community College (Hawaiʻi CC) is holding “TULUNGAN SA KOLEHIYO” on Saturday, Februar
Filipinos are the largest ethnic minority group in Hawaiʻi and make up 25% of Hawaiʻi's population and represent the largest ethnic group in Hawaiʻi's public schools, comprising 23.4% of students in the Hawaiʻi Department of Education. However, when it comes to representation in the University of Hawaiʻi (UH) system, Filipinos make up only 14% of the UH student population.
The purpose of the event is to educate Filipino parents and community members on the benefits of attending the community college and to encourage Filipino high school graduating students to pursue their college education at Hawaiʻi CC.
During the event we will:
-
Share about programs at Hawaiʻi CC that can assist our Filipino community to be job ready
-
Explain how you can save money by taking classes at Hawaiʻi CC that counts towards a bachelor's degree
-
Show how to apply for financial aid and scholarships, and how to get enrolled
You are encouraged to attend. With your support, we hope to increase Filipino college enrollment, transfer, and degree completion rates in Hawaiʻi Island and beyond—putting the dream of higher education within reach!
“Mag-tulungan tayo para sa susunod na hinirasyon”.
