Good Morning Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin for Wednesday, March 5th, 2025. My name is Wanvisa. The periods today are 2, 4, and 6. 

 

[PAUSE]

 

As a reminder, TOMORROW, Thursday, March 6th will be ACT and Pre-ACT testing.

All 9th and 10th graders will be taking the Pre-ACT test in their stars advisory class.

All 11th graders will be taking the ACT test in the NEW gym.

Here are things to bring...

A number 2 pencil, Water, snacks, an approved calculator which is optional.

Get a good night's sleep, Eat a healthy breakfast, and Arrive early to give yourself time to relax.

Please come to school on time. Once testing has started you will not be allowed in the testing room.

 

Seniors, you are not coming for in-person learning tomorrow. Instead, check your Commencement Google Classroom for asynchronous assignments. Please do not come on campus.

 

TODAY AT HILO HIGH SCHOOL

 

Mandatory Band and Hula Meeting (3/3/25-3/5/25)

Attention to all Viking Band and Hula students who are going on the Honolulu Festival Trip. There will be a mandatory meeting for students and parents TODAY, Wednesday, March 5th in the cafeteria at 6pm.

Congratulations to the following talented Fine Arts students whose work has been accepted to the East Hawai'i Cultural Center Young at Art Show: Anelaokalani Tolentino, Hi'ilei Alexander, Rianne Empaynado, and Jaysha Rassmusen. Way to go, Viking artists! 

 

To kick off the Young at Art Show, join us at The Youth Arts Fest this Saturday (3/8) at Kalakaua park from 10am-2:00pm. Hilo High Art Club and many other vendors will be there with games, prizes, and more! 

 

ALSO, 

 

Congratulations to this year's district science fair participants: Finn Balzotti, Sky Bardwell-Jones, Austyn Bugado, Lia Kuo, Sarina Lam, Mahina Maag, 'Ihilani Sakai, Noor Shehata, Emry Uglum, Mindy Williams, and Andrew Woolverton. They presented their science projects and interviewed with a panel of professional judges this past Saturday at the Waiakea High School cafeteria.

 

Sky, Austyn, and Noor placed 1st, 3rd, and 4th overall. They will be joined by Mahina, Andrew, and Sarina to move on to the state science fair to be held on April 1st & 2nd at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.

 

Sky Bardwell-Jones has already qualified to participate in the international science fair in Columbus, Ohio on May 10th to the 16th.

 

Please wish them good luck at the state science fair at the start of next month!

 

 HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING IN CAREER AND COLLEGE COUNSELING OFFICE

 

On Friday, March 7th, the Army National Guard will have a table at the patio during lunch. Please swing by to ask questions and find out how the National Guard can help you to build a bright future!

 

 WHAT’S NEW VIKINGS?

PALC Variety Show (2/21/25-3/7/25)

Wanna see some of our school’s talent? Well you're in luck! PALC will be having their Variety show on March 7th, and 8th, show starts at 7PM. Entry is $5 per person, cash only! Can’t wait to see you there!

 

KVIKS Media General Meeting (3/3/25-3/7/25)

The KVIKS Media General meeting has been moved to Friday, March 7th in C-215. If you are unable to make it, please let Rianne or your Personnel Officer know. If you can make it and want to get lunch early, please pick up a lunch slip in C-117. We will be making our final plans for quarter four and summer!

 

Art Club Permission Forms ​​(3/3/25-3/7/25)

Art Club members! Please stop by Ms. Z's room (L-4) to pick up a permission form for the Youth Arts Festival if you have not done so already. You will be meeting this Friday after school to prepare for the festival.

 

Key Club Recycling Drive on Sunday (3/5 - 3/7/25)

Hey everyone! Key Club is having a Recycling Drive this Sunday, March 9th starting at 9am until 12 pm.  Please bring any recyclables you have-- like plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and even glass jars. This is a great way to help keep our neighborhood green and clean. All funds will proceed to help our Key Clubbers attend District Convention in Ontario, California. We hope to see you there!

 

SPIRIT WEEK (3/5/2025 - 3/7/2025)

VIKINGS!!! Get ready to close out our 3rd Quarter with our MARCH MADNESS SPRING SPIRIT WEEK on our last week of school, March 10th to the 14th! This spirit week, there will be a challenge between the classes to see who has the most spirit, so post your spirit week looks on Instagram as a story or post and tag @hilohighschool to get points for your class!

 

Monday will be Mix n Match Monday, so come to school in mixed-up colors and patterns!

 

Tuesday is TWIN TUESDAY, so dress up as a dynamic duo with a friend!

 

Wednesday is Anything but a Backpack, so of course, bring all your supplies in something other than a backpack! 

 

Thursday is Meme Mania, so dress up as an iconic meme or viral moment! 

 

Finally, we're heading way back for Flashback Friday- dress as your grade's decade! Freshmen, you're going to the 70's, Sophomores, you're going to the 80's, Juniors, head back to the 90's, Finally, seniors, you're the 2000's!

 

We hope you're all ready to close out this quarter with a fun-filled spirit week, and we can't wait to see your fun and creative outfits!  Don't forget to tag @hilohighschool when you post your outfits!
