Ohayo gozaimasu, Vikings! Please welcome 7 students along with a teacher from the Super Science course at Nanao High School and 2 professors from Kanazawa University in Ishikawa, Japan. Hoʻāla Academy is hosting an Environmental Science Collaboration Study Program with them today in the cafeteria, studying plastics in the ocean, bioplastics, and Environmental Social Science. Please welcome them and greet them by saying hello in Japanese, "Kon nichi wa!"
(9/9) There is a Hawaiian Club Meeting TODAY, September 9, 2025 during lunch at Kumu Awa’s room, K-101. Remember to bring your forms and club dues.

A representative from Gonzaga University in Washington will be here on Friday, September 12 @ 1:30pm during pd 7. Please see Ms. Lawrence and Mrs. Frias to sign up and pick up a pass to attend.

(9/8-9/10) The second meeting for Environmental Agents of Change is TOMORROW, September 9th, in C-123. New officers will be announced so please check email for voting details. For more info or to join, contact Mr. Souza at [email protected]
(9/8-9/10) The next Japan Club Meeting will be held TOMORROW Wednesday, September 10th, in Shehata Sensei’s room, P-3, during lunch recess. Important upcoming events and next year’s Japan trip will be discussed. Club dues of $5 and the t-shirt order form are due Friday, September 12th.
(9/5) A Leo Club general meeting is happening TOMORROW at lunch in C-216B, at Ms. T's room. Bring completed club application forms and dues. An upcoming project and other future projects will be shared. Add yourself to the Google Classroom using the code on the screen.
(9/8-9/11) FCA will hold their first huddle this Thursday, September 11th, at the pool during lunch. Come for encouragement, a message, and pizza. Meetings are twice a month, and everyone is welcome—no need to be a Christian or an athlete to join.
What’s New Vikings?
(9/9-9/19) Hilo High School Athletics is conducting a survey to gather student interest in athletics. The goal is to explore adding more sports programs in the coming years, and student feedback will guide which sports are considered. The data collected will be used to help make these decisions. Students interested in participating should click the “BIIF Student Interest in Athletics Survey” link on the HHS website under News/Athletics.
(9/8-9/21) Portrait retakes will take place during period 2 on Monday, September 22nd, 2025 in room C-215. Be sure to get a pass from your period 2 teacher. Students can also come in for retakes before school from 7:30 to 8:00 AM. Need a Photo packet? See Ms. Lawrence in Room N-103.
(9/8-9/19) Class of 2028! Want to be featured in this year’s yearbook? Submit a photo of you and your friends from sophomore year, along with a short description and the names of everyone in the picture (in order). Use the QR code on screen to send your submissions. Entries are open TODAY through Friday, September 19th. Don’t miss this chance to make your sophomore year unforgettable!
(9/8-9/15) Class of 2026! It's time to celebrate the seniors who have made their mark! Vote for the classmates you think best fit each of the categories. From the funniest to the most athletic, the most artistic, and everything in between—your voice counts! How it works:
For most categories, select just one boy and one girl. For Best Duo and Best Bromance, select just one set. Voting will be open until September 15th, and results will be revealed in the yearbook. Let’s honor our seniors and their unique contributions to our school community!
Also, Seniors! This is your LAST opportunity to submit your baby photo and senior quote for the yearbook. You have until Thursday, September 11th. After this date, no late submissions will be accepted. If you do not submit, your baby photo and/or quote will not be included in the yearbook. Other Announcements
(9/5-10/19) The PSAT/NMSQT is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025 and Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Those who are in 9th -11th grade, interested in attending college, and taking the SAT should consider taking this practice test to better prepare them for the real SAT. 11th graders who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch tests for free. For all others, the test costs $18. Priority will be given to current 11th grade students. To register, scan the QR code on the screen.
(9/4-9/17) The Blood Bank of Hawaii is returning to Hilo from September 16th to the 18th to hold a blood drive! Just one donation can save up to three lives!
Donating blood is a powerful way to make a difference. It's crucial for surgeries, emergency care, and for patients with chronic illnesses. Younger donors are especially important for keeping our blood supply strong and diverse to meet the needs of all patients.
Donations will be by appointment only and will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hilo located at 1373 Kilauea Avenue.
The drive will be held on the following days and times:
September 16th from 9 AM to 7 PM
September 17th from 8 AM to 6 PM
September 18th from 6 AM to 3 PM
To be eligible to donate, you must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Other restrictions that can be found on the website.
All staff and admin are also encouraged and invited to donate! Each student donor will be given a reward!

(8/25-9/22) Have your permit and want to get your license? Sign up for Driver Education classes! Go to the HHS website, click on 'Programs & Activities', select 'Driver Ed', and click on 'click here to sign up for Driver Ed'. Click on 'Student Enrollment Form' for Hilo High School, and fill out the Google form. The next class starts in October. Watch your email, because if you miss the RSVP email, you will need to sign up again!
