The time has come to vote for the 2025 Homecoming Court! Voting will take place in period 1 TODAY, September 18th. The candidate for the freshman class is Kaitlyn Chong. Unfortunately, there is no male candidate, so an escort will be appointed. For the Sophomore class, we have Garret De Soto, Ava Ishigo, and Chloe Yanagisawa. For the junior class, we have Katelyn Dodo and Kaiden Alip. Finally, for our Senior class girls, we have Dashley Arurang, Jaycie Menino, Emily Panela, and Quincy Uglum. For the boys, we have Legacy Leialoha and Julian Tapia. Good luck to all of our candidates, and be sure to fill out a ballot; every vote counts!
This Week in the Career and College Counseling Office
TODAY, September 18, a group of 6 representatives from Cal Poly SLO, Washington State, UNLV, Pacific University, Oregon Tech, and Portland State will be visiting Hilo High together at 8:30am during pd 1. Please see Ms. Lawrence or Mrs. Frias in N-103 to sign up and pick up a pass.

A big Viking Congratulations to three seniors for being named among this year's National Merit Scholarship Commended Students! Kathryn Son, Micah Nichols, and River Flynn now have the chance to qualify for additional scholarships for college from National Merit donors and supporters! (9/17-9/22) DON'T FORGET Class of 2026! Senior Mobshot is on Monday Sept. 22, 2025 during STARS on the Field. Posters must be no larger than 24 inches wide by 18 inches tall and should include appropriate content such as a name, love, place,etc . No contraband, profanity, or inappropriate themes are allowed. Dress code will be enforced. No ball caps, no visible brands, no stomach showing, no strapless tops, no short shorts, and no alcohol or drug references. Please make sure to follow these guidelines or you will be unable to participate!
Also Seniors, Here’s a reminder for 2 upcoming yearbook deadlines! First, Senior portraits are due this Saturday, September 20th. Submit through the Google Form using the QR code on the screen. Do not email photos, and no late submissions will be accepted.
Second, senior ad payments are also due by September 20th, and completed ads must be submitted by December 10th. Submit online at hilohigh.org/yearbook. For more information, contact Mrs. Blair at [email protected] Don’t miss these deadlines seniors!

(9/8-9/21) Portrait retakes will take place during period 2 next Monday, September 22nd, 2025 in room C-215. Be sure to get a pass from your period 2 teacher. Students can also come in for retakes before school from 7:30 to 8:00 AM. Need a Photo packet? See Ms. Lawrence in Room N-103.
(9/8-9/19) Class of 2028! Want to be in the yearbook? Submit sophomore year photos with friends, a short description, and names in order. Use the QR code on screen to upload. The deadline is TOMORROW, September 19th.

Other Announcements
(9/9-9/19) Hilo High School Athletics is conducting a survey to gather student interest in athletics. The goal is to explore adding more sports programs in the coming years, and student feedback will guide which sports are considered. The data collected will be used to help make these decisions. Students interested in participating should click the “BIIF Student Interest in Athletics Survey” link on the Hilo High website under News/Athletics.
(9/5-10/19) The PSAT/NMSQT is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025 and Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Those who are in 9th -11th grade, interested in attending college, and taking the SAT should consider taking this practice test to better prepare them for the real SAT. 11th graders who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch tests for free. For all others, the test costs $18. Priority will be given to current 11th grade students. To register, scan the QR code on the screen.
(8/25-9/22) Have your permit and want to get your license? Sign up for Driver Education classes! Go to the HHS website, click on 'Programs & Activities', select 'Driver Ed', and click on 'click here to sign up for Driver Ed'. Click on 'Student Enrollment Form' for Hilo High School, and fill out the Google form. The next class starts in October. Watch your email, because if you miss the RSVP email, you will need to sign up again!
