This Week in the Career and College Counseling Office

 

US Representative Jill Tokuda is hosting an information session at UH Hilo, in UCB 100 from 5:30-6:45pm on Wednesday, Sept 24th about the different Military Service Academies.  Representatives from the Military Academy at West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy will be there.  If you and your family are interested in attending in person, please RSVP at the link on the screen or scan the QR code on the left.  If you cannot attend in person, but would like to listen in via zoom, sign up through the QR code on the right. If you have any questions and need further information before signing up, please see Mrs. Frias in N-103.

 

What’s New Vikings? 

 

(9/23-9/24) There will be an Environmental Agents of Change Club meeting tomorrow September 24, 2025 in Mr. Souza’s room C-123 at lunch.

 

(9/23-9/26) FCA will be having a meeting this Thursday, September 25 at the pool. You do not have to be a Christian or an athlete to attend these meetings. Come down and bring a friend to learn about the word of God, eat pizza, and hang out.

 

(9/22-9/26) Bus Riders, the application window for Qtr. 2 is now open!  Please remember to apply as soon as possible!  You can either apply online or pick up a paper application from the main office.

 

(9/22-10/3) Boys Soccer sign-ups are now open! Anyone interested in playing this school year must complete the Google Form to be eligible. Students who do not sign up will not be allowed to try out. The deadline is Monday, October 6th, by 3 PM. The season is expected to begin in mid-October. A completed physical is required, and there will be no preseason conditioning. For questions, see Mr. George in room A-24 or email him at [email protected]


(9/18-9/25) Hey class of 2028! Want to be a part of this year’s homecoming? Fill out the google form attached to the QR code to show your blue and grey panther spirit!

 

In Case You Missed It Vikings

 

(9/5-10/19) The PSAT/NMSQT is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025 and Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Those who are in 9th -11th grade, interested in attending college, and taking the SAT should consider taking this practice test to better prepare them for the real SAT. 11th graders who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch tests for free. For all others, the test costs $18. Priority will be given to current 11th grade students. To register, scan the QR code on the screen.

[Speech and Debate Video]

Speaker 1:

On Saturday, September 20th, members of the Hilo High Speech and Debate team competed in the Queen Lili’uokalani Scrimmage at UH Hilo. 

 

Speaker 2: 

Although it is early in the season, the competition was high level. Congratulations to all of the students who competed. A special shout out to Ava Yamanaka, who placed 1st in Informative Speech with her self-written piece entitled, “Welcome to the 6th Mass Extinction”, Keoni Randolph and Senaka Reddy who placed 1st in Advanced Public Forum debate, debating on the resolution, “The United Kingdom should rejoin the European Union “ and Joy Ridgely, who placed 1st in Competitive Lincoln Douglas debate, debating on the resolution, “In the United States legal system, plea bargaining is just”. 

 

Speaker 1: 

Speech and Debate is still open to new members. Please come and join us at practice on Wednesday after school in A12a.

Other Announcements


(8/25-9/22) Have your permit and want to get your license?  Sign up for Driver Education classes!  Go to the HHS website, click on 'Programs & Activities', select 'Driver Ed', and click on 'click here to sign up for Driver Ed'.  Click on 'Student Enrollment Form' for Hilo High School, and fill out the Google form. The next class starts in October.  Watch your email, because if you miss the RSVP email, you will need to sign up again!
