Dear Viking Athletes, Coaches, Parents, and Supporters,
As we begin a new season of Viking Athletics, I want to take a moment to reaffirm the values that make Hilo High such a special place. Our athletes represent generations of pride, perseverance, and aloha, carrying forward a legacy built not only on competition but also on character.
Every contest we participate in is made possible by a dedicated network of coaches, athletic trainers, staff, volunteers, and officials. Their work creates opportunities for our athletes to learn, grow, and compete. Our officials, in particular, give up their time, evenings, and weekends so that our students can continue to play the sports they love. We ask everyone in our Viking ʻohana to honor that commitment by demonstrating respect, sportsmanship, and appreciation toward those who serve in these roles. If anyone is interested in becoming an official or learning more about how to support the officiating community, please feel free to reach out and we would be glad to help make that connection.
Our student athletes look to us to be examples of how to respond to adversity, how to show humility in victory, and how to carry themselves with dignity. The lessons they take with them extend far beyond the game.
As we move forward, Viking Athletics will continue to emphasize an environment rooted in aloha, respect, and safety for everyone. This includes clear expectations for conduct at events, ongoing communication from our athletic department, and a shared responsibility to ensure that each contest is a positive experience for athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.
Our goal is not simply to win games. Our goal is to help develop young people who understand teamwork, resilience, and leadership, students who compete with integrity and represent Hilo High with pride wherever they go.
Mahalo for your continued support of Viking Athletics and for helping strengthen the culture and spirit that define our school and our community. Let us continue to lift our athletes, coaches, officials, and one another on the field, on the court, and in the stands.
Once a Viking, always a Viking.
With appreciation,
