(1/13-1/14) Speech and Debate: TODAY’s Mandatory practice is from 1:30-4:30pm. Please note practice is extended and you're expected to be present for the entire time. No exceptions. Report to A-12A promptly at 1:30 dressed in your professional attire. Also, if you haven't turned in your field trip forms and $25 please do so ASAP!
(1/12-1/14) Japan Club is meeting TODAY, January 14th, during Lunch in P-3, Shehata Sensei's room. You will be discussing upcoming events and socials! See you there!
(1/14) All girls interested in trying out for the Hilo High School all girls flag football team, there will be an informational meeting on TODAY, January 14th, from 5:30pm - 7pm at the Mauka side of the Patio. Interested candidates must be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian at this meeting.
Here’s What’s New Vikings
(1/13-1/20) There are a few openings available for the January 2026 Driver Education class. Interested students must sign up on the website and already have a valid permit. Classes will run from January 26 through February 26. Don’t miss this opportunity!
(1/13-2/16) HHS Waterpolo Preseason practice starts on January 26th, 2026. Official Season starts on February 9th, 2026. Practice times are as follows:
January 26 to February 13: 5PM-6:45PM
Starting February 16: 4 - 6:30PM

(1/13-1/16) Surf’s up! Students interested in joining the Hilo High Surf Team are invited to an informational meeting on January 15 at 2:30 PM in room C-219. Coaches will review team requirements, such as passing a junior lifeguarding class and having experience in shortboarding, boogie boarding, or longboarding. This is a co-ed team, so bring the STOKE and get ready to SHRED. For questions, see Mr. Nesson in room C-219.
(1/14-1/16) Ho’ala Students who have put in the work all semester are invited to a Shave Ice Reward Celebration on January 16 during lunch in front of the auditorium. This reward is for students who earned no D’s or F’s and kept a 95% or better attendance rate. Students who qualified should have received a ticket to redeem. Stop by, grab some shave ice, and enjoy a break with friends as a reward for staying focused, showing up, and handling your responsibilities. You earned it, keep finishing strong.

(1/12-1/15) There will be an FCA meeting TOMORROW, January 15th at the pool during lunch. The guest speaker on this day will be Austin Mckenna from New Hope. Bring a friend down to enjoy some pizza, hang out, most importantly, learn about the word of God.

(1/8-1/22) All 10th to 12th graders, the next ASVAB administration is on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026. The test will be administered in C-217 and will start promptly at 8:00 AM. If you are planning on joining the military post-high school, you will need to take the ASVAB.

The number of test-takers per session is 20 on a first come first served basis.
Reserve your spot by January 22, 2026.
(1/8-2/4)The PreACT is scheduled for March 2nd, 2026 to March 6th, 2026. This PreACT test is FREE and ONLY open to current 9th and 10th graders currently attending Hilo High School. Students who are in the 9th and 10th grade interested in attending college and want to prepare for the ACT should consider taking this practice test to better prepare them for the real ACT. Test dates will depend on the amount of students signed up. To register, fill out the Google form at hilohigh.org/preact26. Registration will close on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
(1/13-1/23) The annual Teen Health and Traffic Safety Fair is coming up soon! This year’s event will take place on Thursday, February 12th, in the upper parking lot. Clubs are invited to participate by hosting a booth and/or activity. This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact on students and connect with other organizations. Clubs interested in participating should scan the QR code and complete the Google Form. (1/9-1/16) Is your club or group interested in performing in this year's May Day? Come pick up a performers application paper from Ms. Whitehall in room C-121. Applications will be due on February 27, 2026.
(1/6–1/15) The Blood Bank of Hawaii blood drive continues TODAY, January 14th, from 8 AM to 6 PM, and continues TOMORROW, January 15th, from 6 AM to 3 PM, at 1373 Kilauea Avenue. Appointments are required.Schedule using the QR code, by calling 808-848-4770, or visiting bbh.org. When checking in, remember to provide Hilo High Lifesaver Club sponsor code 383. Students under 18 must pick up a parent authorization form from Mr. Assi in room L-2.
(1/7-1/15) Boys and Girls Tennis tryouts will take place February 9th through the 11th.The schedule is as follows:
February 9th — Girls from 3 to 4:30 PM, Boys from 4:30 to 6 PM
February 10th — Boys from 3 to 4:30 PM, Girls from 4:30 to 6 PM
February 11th — Boys AND Girls from 4 to 6 PM
A current physical and a completed Rank One account are required to try out. Students who still need to sign up or have questions should see Coach Leanne.
