Good morning Vikings! This is your K-V-I-K-S News Bulletin for Friday, February 6th, 2026. My name is Ms. Waracka. Today's periods are 2, 4, and 6.

 

In honor of Mahina ‘Olelo Hawai’i, here’s a fun history fact. During the height of the Hawaiian kingdom, Hawaiians had a 97% literacy rate, meaning 97% of all Hawaiian citizens could read and write in Hawaiian.  They even had over 40 newspapers!

(2/6) Attention all KVIKS Media members, We will be taking our yearbook club photo TODAY during lunch outside of C-117. Please come immediately after the bell. Again, we will be taking our club photo TODAY at the beginning of lunch outside of C-117. See you there!

 

(2/4-2/6) The Kakou Corner Store is open TODAY during lunch in A4!  Teachers, remember to reward your awesome students with Kakou Cash!  Students can come buy snacks, drinks, school supplies, jewelry, and clothes.

 

(1/21-2/6) There will be a Girls Water Polo Parent meeting TODAY, February 6th at the Multi-Purpose Room in the New Gym at 5pm.

(2/6-2/10) If you’re interested in learning a hula, participants are still being accepted. Classes are held during lunch recess on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in February only, in K101, Kumu ʻAwaʻs room. It’s not too late to join! scan the QR code to sign up. 

 

In Case You Missed it Vikings

 

(2/3-2/12) Ho‘oulu Academy students! Want a chance to earn a free ice cake? Five students each week, from now until the end of the school year, will be selected for showing the value of the week. The value for February 2–12 is ALOHA. Show aloha by demonstrating respect, responsibility, empathy, teamwork, patience, caring for the environment, and supporting your peers. Show Aloha in everything you do and be entered to win by your teachers.

 

(1/30-2/10) Boy’s Volleyball Tryouts will be held Monday, February 9 and Tuesday, February 10, from 4pm to 6pm in the new gym. All required forms must be completed and uploaded to Rank One before February 9. Forms are available on the Hilo High Athletics website and the Rank One website, registration is required. If building teamwork and Viking pride sounds like a good fit, come out and give it a shot.

 

(2/2-2/12) Tennis Tryouts begin Monday, February 9 to Wednesday, February 11. The times are as follows:

 

February 9: Girls 3–4:30 PM, Boys 4:30–6PM

February 10: Boys 3–4:30 PM, Girls 4:30–6PM

February 11: Boys AND Girls from 4 to 6 PM

 

A current physical and all completed Rank One forms are required to participate. For questions, see Coach Leanne in F-Building.

Other Announcements


(1/27-2/17) Goodwill Hawaii will be offering free Job Readiness Workshops to help refresh existing skills and build a strong foundation for professional growth. These workshops are open to high school students ages 16 and up, as well as community members 18 and older. Sessions will be held February 17th through the 19th, with morning workshops from 9 to 10 am and afternoon workshops from 4 to 5 pm. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up using the QR code on the screen. Attendance will be recorded once registered.
