Dear Hilo High ʻohana,
As part of our commitment to keeping you informed, I want to make you aware of a safety concern that was brought to our attention. We received an anonymous tip through our reporting system indicating that a student may have made statements involving threats of harm toward the school and others.
We take all reports of this nature seriously. Our administration immediately began looking into the concern and contacted the Hawaiʻi Police Department. We are working closely with them as we assess the situation and determine appropriate next steps.
At this time, school remains open, and there is no confirmed threat to campus. Out of an abundance of caution, we will continue to maintain a visible presence and take appropriate measures to ensure a safe learning environment for our students and staff.
I understand that information like this can be unsettling. Please know that student safety is our top priority, and we will continue to act quickly and responsibly when concerns are brought forward. We also want to remind our students and families that reporting concerns, as was done in this case, is an important part of keeping our school community safe.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our administration at 808-313-5500.
Mahalo for your continued trust and partnership.
Sincerely,
Adrian DeMello
Principal
