Ho'oulu Ambassador Meeting (9/24)
There will be a Ho'oulu Ambassadors meeting TODAY, September 24th, during lunch in Room A-17. You will be looking ahead to Quarter 2 and discussing plans for Waiver Day on October 23rd. Please come ready to share your ideas!
Here’s What’s New Vikings
September is Deaf Awareness Month and this week is the International Week of Deaf People!
Remember: Deaf people can do anything hearing people can do except hear. Deaf awareness month is about celebrating Deaf culture, but also raising awareness about accessibility and inclusion.
Here are four quick tips for communicating:
- Direct communication: Look and speak directly to the Deaf person, not the interpreter. Never say "can you tell him or tell her" also refrain from saying “Don’t interpret that” around a deaf person.
- Get attention: Wave, tap a shoulder gently, or flicker the room lights.
- Don’t Assume: Not all Deaf people read lips. Do not assume that they do!
- Learn a few signs: Learning even basic ASL signs goes a long way toward making everyone feel welcome!
Fun fact: American Sign Language isn't universal, there are over 300 signed languages worldwide, like Japanese Sign Language, Mexican sign language, and currently Olelo Hawaii Kuhi Lima is being developed!”
HOSA meeting (9/24)
Attention HOSA members! There will be a mandatory meeting this Friday, September 25th, in Mr. Assi’s room, L-2. This will be the final meeting before fall break to discuss crucial fundraising due dates, Regional Leadership Conference guidelines, and upcoming events. Please make sure to attend!
Girls Soccer Conditioning (9/23-9/30)
Girls Soccer preseason conditioning will begin at OK Farms, located at 1570 Maikalani Street, on the following dates:
Monday, September 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Please remember to bring running shoes, soccer cleats, shin guards, and water.
Filipino Club (9/22-9/25)
Aloha Filipino Club members! There will be an all-members meeting TOMORROW, September 25th, during lunch in Mr. Caceres’ room, A-23. Please make sure to attend!
Pre-Register for a Flu Shot (9/23 - 9/25)
KTA Pharmacy is offering flu vaccinations at Hilo High School on Monday, October 26, 2026. This Week in the Career and College Counseling Office

Monday, September 28th - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (also known as MIT) will be here at 8:45am during pd 2.

Military and Commercial Pilot Career Talk (9/24-9/28)
Ever wondered what it takes to become a military or commercial pilot? There will be a career talk on Tuesday, September 29th, during Period 7 with Hayden Stevens—a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, former U.S. Marine Corps Major and pilot, and current commercial pilot for Hawaiian Airlines. Pick up a pass in Room BB-102 ahead of time to reserve a spot!

Come in your comfiest pajamas!
Tuesday:
Tuesday is Plaid Out!
Dress in your best plaid, flannel, or palaka print.
Wednesday:
Wednesday is Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice.
Wear your favorite fall colors, like brown, cream, red, or orange!
Join us in your festive colors for a pumpkin pie eating contest in the front of the auditorium at lunch!
Thursday:
Thursday is Sweater Weather!
Come to school in your best fall sweater.
Friday:
And finally, Friday is Great Pumpkin Day!
Dress as your favorite Peanuts Character and bring an apple to the front of the auditorium at lunch to make your own caramel apple.
I am so excited for spirit week!

Boys Soccer Sign Ups (9/21-10/12)
Attention all students interested in playing Boys Soccer this school year! Sign-ups are open, and you must sign up using the QR code on the screen in order to participate. Make sure to use your legal first and last name, and ensure you have a completed physical and all required forms uploaded into Rank One. Sign-ups will close on Monday, October 12th, at 3 PM. [VIDEO] PAAC Ramen Fundraiser
Aloha Viks! Are you hungry after school? The Pacific & Asian Affairs Council, also known as the PAAC Club, will be selling cup noodles after school every Tuesday and Thursday in Shehata Senseiʻs room in P-3 from 2:15 pm to 2:45 pm. This fundraiser will support our trip to the Jeju International Youth Forum in South Korea in October! Thank you!
Girl’s Basketball Conditioning (9/14-10/30)
Any girls that are interested in playing basketball this upcoming season, conditioning is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:15pm to 7:50pm. And Weightlifting is Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 7pm. For any questions you can contact coach fred collins with the number on the screen.
Junior HOCO Dance Practices (9/14-9/25)
Homecoming dance practice for the Junior class are held on Mondays and Wednesdays during lunch recess in Mr. Baldado's room and after school in the cafeteria until 2:30 p.m. See you there!

Hey Vikings! The Hilo High LEO Club will be hosting a school-wide canned food drive from Wednesday, September 16, til Wednesday, September 30. All donations can be dropped off at either Ms. T's classroom in C-217A or Ms. Farmer's classroom in R-12. All food donated will be donated to the Food Bank of Hawaii or the Hawaii Food Basket. Come and show your support. Thank you!
