This week is Fall Spirit Week AND the last week of Quarter 1! Today’s theme is Fall Back Into Bed. We hope you are wearing your comfiest pajamas!

September is Deaf Awareness Month and last week was the International Week of Deaf People!
Remember: Deaf people can do anything hearing people can do except hear. Deaf awareness month is about celebrating Deaf culture, but also raising awareness about accessibility and inclusion.
Here are four quick tips for communicating:
- Direct communication: Look and speak directly to the Deaf person, not the interpreter. Never say "can you tell him or tell her" also refrain from saying “Don’t interpret that” around a deaf person.
- Get attention: Wave, tap a shoulder gently, or flicker the room lights.
- Don’t Assume: Not all Deaf people read lips. Do not assume that they do!
- Learn a few signs: Learning even basic ASL signs goes a long way toward making everyone feel welcome!
Fun fact: American Sign Language isn't universal, there are over 300 signed languages worldwide, like Japanese Sign Language, Mexican sign language, and currently Olelo Hawaii Kuhi Lima is being developed!”

Girls Soccer Conditioning (9/23-9/30)
Girls Soccer preseason conditioning will begin at OK Farms, located at 1570 Maikalani Street, on the following dates:
Monday, September 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Please remember to bring running shoes, soccer cleats, shin guards, and water.
Girl’s Basketball Conditioning (9/14-10/30)
Any girls that are interested in playing basketball this upcoming season, conditioning is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:15pm to 7:50pm. And Weightlifting is Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 7pm. For any questions you can contact coach fred collins with the number on the screen.

Pre-Register for a Flu Shot (9/23 - 9/25)
KTA Pharmacy is offering flu vaccinations at Hilo High School on Monday, October 26, 2026. Scan the QR code on the screen to register online or visit hilohigh.org and check out the webpost for the paper form or registration link. Boys Soccer Sign Ups (9/21-10/12)
Attention all students interested in playing Boys Soccer this school year! Sign-ups are open, and you must sign up using the QR code on the screen in order to participate. Make sure to use your legal first and last name, and ensure you have a completed physical and all required forms uploaded into Rank One. Sign-ups will close on Monday, October 12th, at 3 PM. Military and Commercial Pilot Career Talk (9/24-9/28)
Ever wondered what it takes to become a military or commercial pilot? There will be a career talk on Tuesday, September 29th, during Period 7 with Hayden Stevens—a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, former U.S. Marine Corps Major and pilot, and current commercial pilot for Hawaiian Airlines. Pick up a pass in Room BB-102 ahead of time to reserve a spot!

Hey Vikings! The Hilo High LEO Club will be hosting a school-wide canned food drive from Wednesday, September 16, til Wednesday, September 30. All donations can be dropped off at either Ms. T's classroom in C-217A or Ms. Farmer's classroom in R-12. All food donated will be donated to the Food Bank of Hawaii or the Hawaii Food Basket.
