HONOLULU, HI - This past weekend at UH Manoa, Hilo High School students competed at the FIRST Robotics Hawaii Regional Competition. Known as the "Superbowl of the Mind" students were given 6 weeks to design, build and program a robot to complete the yearly challenge. At the competition, the students went up against teams from around the state and a few teams from around the world.
This year, Team 1378 or Hilo Viking Robotics fought their way into the final matches, where they were defeated by the winning alliance of teams. Aside from being Regional Finalists, Team 1378 won the Regional Engineering Inspiration Award which celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school or organization and community. This award qualifies the team to compete at the World Championships in Houston, Texas later in April.
Lastly, student Ina Klasner won the FIRST Dean's List Finalist Award which celebrates outstanding student leaders whose passion for and effectiveness at attaining FIRST ideals is exemplary.
Congratulations to all team members of Team 1378! #hhsvikingpride
