Hilo Blood Drive (January 18, 19 & 20, 2022)

Blood Bank of Hawaii is visiting Hilo for a Blood Drive on January 18, 19, & 20, 2022. Volunteers are needed to donate blood. Students over age of 16, teachers, and staff are welcome to participate.

Grab-and-Go Meals to Continue At Certain Sites

Most sites will serve breakfast and lunch while others will offer lunch only (indicated in list below). Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Graduate Drive Through Guidelines Shared

All graduating Hilo High School seniors are invited to participate in our first ever Graduate Drive Through Event on May 22, 2020. School Administration released the guidelines for the event via social media, the most important being: "The public is not invited to participate in the event as we must observe the social distancing regulations."

Click for application. Are you interested in Coding? Perhaps you want to learn how to code? Hilo High School is looking for students who are interested in joining our School Design App Development Team. The app will be made using Android Studio and Apple XCODE. This app that is being developed has the potential to be used by many people, outside of Hilo High! Anyone who wants to learn is available to join this project as well!

2020 School Quality Survey

The School Quality Survey (SQS) Parent Letters were sent home with your child on Monday, 01/13/2020. Please complete and mail in the enclosed pre-paid envelope at any time, no later than March 13, 2020.

If your child would like to earn 10 HERO points, please have your child bring their COMPLETED (and sealed) SQS envelopes to Ms. Julie Ann Lawrence in A01-B by February 14, 2020.

Class of 2020 Senior Luau (February 29th, 2020)

Class of 2020 senior luau will be on Saturday February 29th, 2020 at the Hilo High first patio, the cost will be $20.00 and forms are available for pick up at A12B from January 13-17 and payment will be on Jan 20-24.

Performance Arts Learning Center-PALC

The Performing Arts Learning Center, PALC, will hold 2 registration meetings for semester 2. You only need to attend one of the two meetings. The first is meeting is Tuesday, January 14, from 3-4:30 pm. The second meeting is Wednesday, January 15, from 3-4:30 pm.

6th Annual Hilo Complex Band Hot Dog Jam (February 15, 2020)

Hey Vikings! The 6th Annual, Hilo Complex Bands, Hot Dog Jam Fundraising Event is happening on February 15 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at our own Hilo High Gym. Hilo High Special Olympic UNIFIED Program (January 15, 2020)

Anyone still interested in volunteering, or becoming a UNIFIED Partner for Hilo High School Special Olympic UNIFIED Program, please come to room N105 to complete forms. First practice will start on Wednesday, January 15th during lunch recess at the track.

2020 May Day Court Applications (1/8 - 1/16, 2020)

Do you love to dance? Do you love the Hawaiian culture? Do you think you have what it takes to represent your class and ʻohana in this yearʻs May Day Hōʻike? Come to P-3 (Mr. Fernandez rm) and K101 (Kumu ʻAwaʻs rm) to pick up a May Day Court application. Applications will be available from Wednesday, 1/8, to Thursday, 1-16. If you have any questions, please go see Mr. Fernandez or Kumu ʻAwa.

2020 Senior Song Practices Begin

Seniors! Your commencement song practices are starting on January 13th. Every Monday beginning January 13th, please report directly to the Pool when pd 2 ends. Song practice begins at the start of 1st recess. Anyone who reports more than 5 minutes late will be considered absent for that day's practice and will lose that ticket. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Arbles.

Viking Band Strawberry Mochi Fundraiser

Attention all Vikings! The Hilo High Viking Band will be launching a Strawberry Mochi fundraiser! Tickets will be sold the first two weeks of December and pick up will be January 29th - February 1st and February 5th - February 8th at Two Ladies Kitchen from 11am-3pm. Fukunaga Scholarship (19-20)

The Fukunaga Scholarship is open to any graduating senior planning to attend a 4-year college or university next Fall and major in an area of Business. This scholarship could be worth $5,000 every year of college for a total of $20,000! Come to A-1 for more information.

Bezos Scholars Program (19-20)

Listen up, Juniors! This Leadership/Scholarship program is just for you! The Bezos Scholars Program is a year-long leadership program that amplifies youth voice and action. Accepted scholars are invited to attend an all-expenses paid trip to the Aspen Ideas Festival during the summer after Junior Year.

Pursuant to Act 206 (2018), Section 712-1258, Hawaii Revised Statutes, it is unlawful for any student under the age of 21 to purchase or possess any tobacco product or electronic smoking device. In addition, any tobacco product or electronic smoking device found in a student’s possession is committing a Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapter 19 offense. It shall be seized by school administration and forfeited to law enforcement.

Temporary Telecom Outage (11/5/2019)

Aloha Hilo High Community. Today, November 5, 2019, around 10 AM, Hilo High experienced a network outage that disrupted bells, paging, internet and phone communications. Service was restored at 10:45 AM. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused to those trying to reach us.

Hilo High Paddling Conditioning (11/4 - 11/7, 2019)

Hilo High School Canoe Paddling conditioning will be from Monday, November 4, 2019 to Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM at the Hilo High pool. You must have a current physical on file to participate.

Harriet Bouslog Labor and Hilo Women's Club Scholarships

The Harriet Bouslog Labor Scholarship - $2,000 - open to students who are related to a current, retired, or deceased member of ILWU Local 142, planning to enroll in one of the UH System schools.

The Hilo Women's Club Scholarship - $1,000 - open to students graduating from an East Hawaii High School, with a GPA of 3.0 and higher, planning to attend UH Hilo or Hawaii Community College next year.

Project Vision Hawaii Conducts Free Screening

On October 28, 29,& 30 Project Vision Hawaii offered FREE vision screening for all students at Hilo High School! The screening took about 15-20 minutes per student as they underwent various preliminary vision checks. Students from our Clinical Health Pathway classes assisted with the screening process, along with members of our local Lions Clubs. Students identified for further testing may also be eligible for free glasses!!

Yokoe Takes Girls HHSAA Air Rifle Championship!

A great big VIKING Congratulations to Junior GIANNA YOKOE! Yokoe rallied in the championship round to 631.9 for the girls title at the Sporter Air Rifle/HHSAA State Championships! Way to go, Gianna!

ASVAB Test (December 4th, 2019)

To all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, we will be having our second ASVAB test of the year on Wednesday, December 4th, 2019. The ASVAB test is a must take for anyone interested in joining the military. To sign up or to get more information, see Ms. Taniguchi in A-16 during morning or lunch recess. Spots are limited.

Halloween Rally on Thursday 10/31/2019

Hey Vikings! It's spooky season! Dress up on Halloween to get hero points during recess and lunch in front of the auditorium. There will be a lunch time rally with fun games and a costume contest! Hope to see you there!

Career Fair (11/14/2019)

We will be attending the Career Fair on Thursday, November 14th. You'll have the chance to speak directly with professionals in different careers, who represent all 6 career pathways. We will need to miss all of pd 1 and 1st recess on November 14th. We will return to school a few minutes tardy to pd 3. Forms can be picked up from Ms. Lawrence or Ms. Frias in A-1. Signed forms are due back to A-1 by Nov 12th. Space is limited to 2 buses - return your forms ASAP.

University of Hawaii at Manoa Scholarship Workshop (10/30/2019)

Hey, Seniors! Planning to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa? Interested in learning about some scholarships specific to us in Hawaii? Need some time to work on scholarship applications? Free Hawaiian Studies 100 College Class (SY 19-20 2nd Semester)

Attention ALL Vikings! Are you interested in starting to earn College Credits while you are still in high school? Want to earn those college credits FOR FREE?
You're in luck! Hilo High School and Hawaii Community College are offering an AFTER SCHOOL Hawaiian Studies 100 Class during 2nd semester of this school year. Space is limited, so please see Mrs. Frias in A-1 as soon as possible if you are interested.

Hawaii Community College Application Session (11/05/2019)

Good morning, Seniors! Do you still need to apply to college? Did you miss the first Hawaii Community College application session last month? Well, you're in luck! Hawaii Community College will be back to conduct another application session with us on Tuesday, November 5th. Please see Mrs. Frias in A-1 to sign up for the session and pick up a pass. Hilo High Dive Team Meeting (10/31/2019)

If you are interested in trying out for the Hilo High Dive Team, please stop by N101 on October 31 during lunch to sign up. Diving tryouts will be held on October 31, 2019 to November 1, 2019 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the Hilo High Pool. You must have a current physical to participate.

College Fair Field Trip Reminders (10/25/2019)

Students attending the College Fair on Friday, 10/25 - you will be missing lunch on Friday. Please plan accordingly by eating Wiki, or by bringing a home lunch with you that day. You will all report to your pd 4 classes as usual. An announcement will be made to excuse you at 10:30am. Buses will leave Hilo High at 10:45am. We will return to pd 6 around 12:15pm.

HERO POINT OPPORTUNITY! VETERANS DAY CARDS

Please come to A-16 at recess and lunch beginning on October 14th (the first day back from fall break) to pick up cards that you can make. Each card can be turned in for 5 HERO points and you can make a total of 4 cards to earn a maximum of 20 points. All cards are DUE on October 30 back to A-16 at recess and lunch.
